Dayton told a stunned luncheon audience that Minnesota is among the best places for business in the country, contrary to the Chamber\u2019s message.<\/p>\n<p>He said government spending is right in the middle, and that the state\u2019s tax rank is dropping.<\/p>\n<p>Dayton said he never heard the same criticism when Republican Tim Pawlenty was governor for eight years, and he asked his staff to investigate.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAnd we could not find a single instance of the chamber calling for spending reforms during those eight years,\u201d Dayton said. \u201cEvidently, in your view, spending reform is needed only when a Democrat is governor.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><del>Messinger<\/del>\u00a0Dayton also said he was sticking firm to his promise to hike taxes on &#8220;the rich&#8221; (meaning &#8220;successful entrepreneurs and professionals who didn&#8217;t have the foresight or the fiscal and legal clout to move their money to dynasty trusts in South Dakota&#8221;, as opposed to, say, him).<\/p>\n<p>A couple of observations:<\/p>\n<p>Gov. Dayton told a stunned luncheon audience that Minnesota is among the best places for business in the country, contrary to the Chamber\u2019s message.<\/p>\n<p>He said government spending is right in the middle, and that the state\u2019s tax rank is dropping.<\/p>\n<p>Dayton said he never heard the same criticism when Republican Tim Pawlenty was governor for eight years, and he asked his staff to investigate.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAnd we could not find a single instance of the chamber\u00a0<a id=\"itxthook1\" href=\"http:\/\/minnesota.cbslocal.com\/2013\/03\/13\/gov-dayton-lashes-out-at-chamber-of-commerce\/#\" rel=\"nofollow\">calling<img decoding=\"async\" id=\"itxthook1icon\" src=\"http:\/\/images.intellitxt.com\/ast\/adTypes\/icon1.png\" alt=\"\" \/><\/a>\u00a0for spending reforms during those eight years,\u201d Dayton said. \u201cEvidently, in your view, spending reform is needed only when a Democrat is governor.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>A few observations:<br \/>\n<strong><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Governor Whinypants<\/strong>: \u00a0Business never complained about spending on Pawlenty&#8217;s watch? \u00a0 Huh?<\/p>\n<p>During the first term, business complained about things like &#8220;health impact fees&#8221; &#8211; stealth taxes framed as compromises with the DFL in a legislature he didn&#8217;t completely control. \u00a0Just ask Sue Jeffers. \u00a0 On the other hand, he generally held the line on taxes, pursuant to his pledge to the Taxpayers League.<\/p>\n<p>During the second? \u00a0Pawlenty was faced with a wastrel DFL legislature; business rightly figured he was the last line of defense against the sort of pillaging the <del>Messinger<\/del> Dayton Administration and the Legislature have in mind.<\/p>\n<p>And they were right then, and they&#8217;re right now.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Profiles In Leadership<\/strong>: \u00a0This is leadership? \u00a0&#8220;If you don&#8217;t see things my way you&#8217;re a poopyhead?&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Reverting To Stereotype<\/strong>: Conservatives pillory liberals for being innumerate, having \u00a0stunted knowledge of economics outside of Paul Krugman&#8217;s ravings &#8211; the type who think raising the minimum wage cures poverty.<\/p>\n<p>It&#8217;s on stories like this that you realize;\u00a0<em>the stereotype exists for a reason<\/em>.\u00a0.<\/p>\n<p>Dave Mindeman at mnpACT <a href=\"http:\/\/www.mnpact.org\/sblog\/blog.php?id=3687&amp;utm_source=WhatCounts+Publicaster+Edition&amp;utm_medium=email&amp;utm_campaign=Politics+in+Minnesota+Morning+Report+3%2f14%2f2013&amp;utm_content=To+the+Chamber+of+Commerce%3a+SHOVE+IT\">put it a little differently<\/a>, by way of cheering Governor Messinger Dayton on in a piece titled &#8220;To the Chamber of Commerce: SHOVE IT&#8221; in a flight of Oscar Wilde-like whimsy..:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>So Dayton dropped the sales tax proposal with the caveat that his increased income tax on higher income earners would go forward.<\/p>\n<p>But they object to that as well.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>&#8220;Hey, we left your top line alone, more or less; you can&#8217;t complain if we attack your bottom line, now, can you?&#8221;<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>They continue to promote the addage that this tax will affect small business&#8230;and yes, here we go, the &#8220;job creators&#8221;. They continue this argument even though the Department of Revenue has shown that only 6% of small business would be affected. And again, we are only talking about the highest portions of their income. If they are making substantially more than $250,000, why the huge objection to paying some back to a state that has benefitted you greatly?<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>I can see\u00a0<del>Messinger&#8217;s<\/del>\u00a0Dayton&#8217;s disconnect;\u00a0<del>she<\/del>\u00a0he has never worked, and has no concept of what business is about. \u00a0Not sure where Mindeman comes at it from, and I&#8217;m not sure that it matters.<\/p>\n<p><del>Messinger<\/del> Dayton is daring business to pick up and leave.<\/p>\n<p><del>She<\/del> He doesn&#8217;t think they will.<\/p>\n<p>I imagine we&#8217;ll find out sooner than later.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Governor Messinger\u00a0Dayton famously appeared at the Chamber of Commerce yesterday.
