{"id":34325,"date":"2013-02-19T07:15:03","date_gmt":"2013-02-19T13:15:03","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.shotinthedark.info\/wp\/?p=34325"},"modified":"2013-02-19T07:26:30","modified_gmt":"2013-02-19T13:26:30","slug":"alice-hausmans-illiterate-obsession-weird-looking-guns","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.shotinthedark.info\/wp\/?p=34325","title":{"rendered":"Alice Hausman&#8217;s Illiterate Obsession, Part III:  Weird Looking Guns!"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The next stop on our dissection of HF241 &#8211; Alice Hausman&#8217;s\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.revisor.mn.gov\/bin\/bldbill.php?bill=H0241.0.html&amp;session=ls88\">gun grab bill focused on so-called &#8220;assault weapons&#8221;<\/a>\u00a0&#8211; is, I&#8217;ll be honest, mind-bogglingly obtuse.<\/p>\n<p>It would ban&#8230;:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\u00a0(3) semi-automatic pistol that has the capacity to accept a detachable magazine and\u00a0<span style=\"font-family: Georgia, 'Bitstream Charter', serif; font-style: italic;\">has one or more of the following:<\/span><\/p>\n<p>(i) any feature capable of functioning as a protruding grip that can be held by the\u00a0<span style=\"font-family: Georgia, 'Bitstream Charter', serif; font-style: italic;\">nontrigger hand;<\/span><\/p>\n<p>(ii) a folding, telescoping, or thumbhole stock;<\/p>\n<p>(iii) a shroud attached to the barrel, or that partially or completely encircles the\u00a0<span style=\"font-family: Georgia, 'Bitstream Charter', serif; font-style: italic;\">barrel, allowing the bearer to hold the firearm with the nontrigger hand without being\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-family: Georgia, 'Bitstream Charter', serif; font-style: italic;\">burned, but excluding a slide that encloses the barrel; or<\/span><\/p>\n<p>(iv) the capacity to accept a detachable magazine at any location outside of the\u00a0<span style=\"font-family: Georgia, 'Bitstream Charter', serif; font-style: italic;\">pistol grip;<\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>This is aimed at the various semi-automatic pistols that have been teased into a vaguely military-looking appearance, like the &#8220;Uzi Pistol&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone\" src=\"http:\/\/files.uzitalk.com\/reference\/micro\/micro.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"290\" height=\"291\" \/><\/p>\n<p>&#8230;which are, literally, pistols with little collapsible stocks on them. \u00a0They are mostly famous for appearing in movies in the hands of gang-bangers, which is no doubt why <del>Heather Martens<\/del>\u00a0some DFL staffer added them to the bill.<\/p>\n<p>But it also includes our old friend the Mauser C96&#8230;:<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone\" src=\"http:\/\/www.ignomini.com\/guns\/gunthumbs\/Mauser_c96_Large_Ring_holster-stock.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"498\" height=\"174\" \/><\/p>\n<p>&#8230;which\u00a0<em>can\u00a0<\/em>add a stock to make it a light carbine (for horse-mounted troops in the 1800s), and is a big collectible. \u00a0 No, I had a friend who owned one. \u00a0It&#8217;s not that far-out.<\/p>\n<p>(I didn&#8217;t forget the Browning HP35&#8230;<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone\" src=\"http:\/\/upload.wikimedia.org\/wikipedia\/commons\/thumb\/e\/e3\/Browning_HP_(Finnish)_with_stock.jpg\/220px-Browning_HP_(Finnish)_with_stock.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"220\" height=\"104\" \/><\/p>\n<p>&#8230;which the DFL staff and\/or Heather Martens didn&#8217;t think about, apparently because it&#8217;s\u00a0<em>not\u00a0<\/em>appeared in any gang-banger movies or TV shows, but also has a 13 round magazine, so the DFL will want to ban it anyway&#8230;)<\/p>\n<p>Later today: \u00a0Yes, this bill gets dumber still.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The next stop on our dissection of HF241 &#8211; Alice Hausman&#8217;s\u00a0gun grab bill focused on so-called &#8220;assault weapons&#8221;\u00a0&#8211; is, I&#8217;ll be honest, mind-bogglingly obtuse.
