{"id":32134,"date":"2012-11-30T12:00:34","date_gmt":"2012-11-30T18:00:34","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.shotinthedark.info\/wp\/?p=32134"},"modified":"2012-11-30T12:17:02","modified_gmt":"2012-11-30T18:17:02","slug":"those-who-forget-history-are-condemned-to-be-establishment-house-republicans","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.shotinthedark.info\/wp\/?p=32134","title":{"rendered":"Those Who Forget History Are Condemned To Be Establishment House Republicans"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Let&#8217;s take a look at history.<\/p>\n<p><strong>1985<\/strong> &#8211; Ronald Reagan, who (let&#8217;s remember this) governed his entire eight years with Congressional minorities, had to finally cut a deal with the Dems. \u00a0The deal with Tip O&#8217;Neill involved two dollars in spending cuts for every dollar in tax hikes. \u00a0It led to the &#8220;Reagan Tax Hikes&#8221; that liberals blather about (<a href=\"http:\/\/www.shotinthedark.info\/wp\/?p=20979\">they were much, much smaller than his tax cuts<\/a>, and occurred after the economy had recovered, which isn&#8217;t nearly as stupid as raising taxes during a recession). \u00a0 Naturally, O&#8217;Neill reneged on the deal; we got the tax hikes\u00a0<em>and\u00a0<\/em>the spending, putting a black mark on Reagan&#8217;s legacy and giving a generation of giggly lefty chanting-point-bots a cheap <em>tu quoque\u00a0<\/em>tittering point.<\/p>\n<p><strong>1990<\/strong>\u00a0&#8211; George H.W.
