{"id":30680,"date":"2012-09-25T12:00:07","date_gmt":"2012-09-25T17:00:07","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.shotinthedark.info\/wp\/?p=30680"},"modified":"2012-09-25T08:03:24","modified_gmt":"2012-09-25T13:03:24","slug":"i-sent-katrina-leskanich-a-card","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.shotinthedark.info\/wp\/?p=30680","title":{"rendered":"I Sent Katrina Leskanich A Card"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Today, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.startribune.com\/lifestyle\/171027781.html\">we&#8217;re told<\/a>, is &#8220;One Hit Wonder Day&#8221;<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Yes, today is One Hit Wonder Day, perhaps the only &#8220;Hallmark holiday&#8221; in which the honorees are denigrated as much as celebrated, victims of that peculiar human tendency to put folks on a pedestal and relish knocking them down.<\/p>\n<p>As if any of us could make a song &#8212; just one &#8212; embraced by millions.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Well, it&#8217;s fun to think about.<\/p>\n<p>I&#8217;ve always loved one-hit wonders &#8211; little snippets of musical history cast out into the ether, there to rattle around on late-night AM airwaves and trivia contests and &#8220;where are they now&#8221; shows.<\/p>\n<p>Below the jump &#8211; some of my favorites.<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Westbound Number Nine&#8221; by the Flaming Ember &#8211; one of the great &#8220;white soul&#8221; songs of the late sixties:<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" width=\"420\" height=\"315\" src=\"http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/vO0v8p6rSTU\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>Franky Perez was one of the best acts I saw in the early 2000&#8217;s; I saw him at the Basilica Block Party in 2003, and it was like watching a young Springsteen.  Just freaking amazing.  This &#8211; &#8220;Something Crazy&#8221; &#8211; was his one hit, and it was far from his best song; if you can find a copy of his debut album &#8220;Poor Man&#8217;s Son&#8221;, grab it.  You&#8217;ll thank me.<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" width=\"420\" height=\"315\" src=\"http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/f55UDVS6iUQ\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>I know &#8211; Honeymoon Suite had a zillion hits in Canada.  Of course, due to Canadian media balance laws requiring radio stations to carry Canadian content, every garage band in Winnipeg had a hit in the eighties.  But Honeymoon Suite was fun:<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" width=\"420\" height=\"315\" src=\"http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/uK0AmgDGpPo\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>The cruelest cut of all?
