Liberals are having hysterics about Romney\u2019s remark. Conservatives are tying themselves in knots trying to justify it. I wish they\u2019d stop, just stop.<\/p>\n
Candidate Romney, seeking donations from wealthy people, played to their prejudices about producers and takers.<\/p>\n
Candidate Obama, seeking donations from wealthy people, played to their prejudices about religion and guns.<\/p>\n
Both candidates did it and for the same reasons. Look, it\u2019s simple human nature. You must convince donors you are on their side in order to convince them to give you money. It\u2019s a standard campaign fundraising tactic, taught in all the candidate schools and used by every political party.<\/p>\n
Utilizing proven fundraising techniques says nothing about the candidate\u2019s true feelings on the issue, and says nothing about the truth of the underlying issue because it\u2019s not an appeal to truth, it\u2019s an appeal to prejudice and we all know it. Candidates don\u2019t say those things because they\u2019re true, they say them because that\u2019s what shakes the money loose, which is all that matters in a campaign fundraiser.<\/p>\n
But it\u2019s not politically correct to admit that you appeal to prejudice to raise money so all politicians deny it and their supporters try to spin it when what voters really should do is accept it and ignore it. Campaign fundraising is a distraction from the real questions: what will you do when you get elected to fix the economy and keep the nation safe?<\/p>\n
Drop the fake outrage and talk about things that you, as politicians, actually can do something about: the budget, taxes, war. Can we do that, please?<\/p>\n
