{"id":29896,"date":"2012-08-27T12:00:42","date_gmt":"2012-08-27T17:00:42","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.shotinthedark.info\/wp\/?p=29896"},"modified":"2012-08-26T11:35:20","modified_gmt":"2012-08-26T16:35:20","slug":"revolution-on-eternal-repeat","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.shotinthedark.info\/wp\/?p=29896","title":{"rendered":"Revolution On Eternal Repeat"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I&#8217;ve been a huge Dinesh D&#8217;Souza fan since I read his\u00a0<em>Reagan: How An Ordinary Man Became An Extraordinary President<\/em> over a decade ago; it may have been the best Reagan bio ever.<\/p>\n<p>And I got a chance to see\u00a0<em>2016\u00a0<\/em>over the weekend. \u00a0It didn&#8217;t disappoint:<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/hfLsSg9wZlE\" frameborder=\"0\" width=\"560\" height=\"315\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>The movie&#8217;s thesis is&#8230;<\/p>\n<p>(<strong>Spoiler Alert<\/strong>: I&#8217;m going to talk spoilers below the jump, although to be fair I think much of what&#8217;s in the movie has been in the public domain; this is just the first high-profile place I&#8217;ve seen it all collected into one coherent thesis)<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p>It&#8217;s not news that Obama&#8217;s experience is not the typical Afro-American experience, and certainly not the average immigrant&#8217;s experience. \u00a0Obama&#8217;s father was a rabid Kenyan anti-colonialist who disappeared from Obama&#8217;s life bright and early, to go back to Kenya to serve as an advisor to the various anti-colonial figures in post-independence Kenya. \u00a0Like a lot of children whose fathers disappear, Obama idealized his father and his beliefs, especially in contrast to his stepfather, the Indonesian Lolo Soetoro, whom Obama&#8217;s very left-of-center mother scorned more and more as Soetoro became more westernized.<\/p>\n<p>Obamas road through the education system was guided by five men D&#8217;Souza refers to as &#8220;Obama&#8217;s founding fathers&#8221;<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Communist agitator Frank Marshall Davis<\/li>\n<li>Former Weatherman and domestic terrorist Bill Ayers,<\/li>\n<li>Radical anti-semite Columbia Professor Edward Sa\u00efd<\/li>\n<li>Brazilian &#8220;revolutionary socialist&#8221; and Harvard Law School\u2019s Roberto Unger<\/li>\n<li>Jeremiah Wright, whom one might not have learned during the 2008 campaign married the Obamas and baptized their children, and is not merely a crazy old minister, but in fact a prominent proponent of the idea that America is a singularly evil ideal<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>One of the main criticisms of &#8220;progressivism&#8221; is that it ostensibly seeks to provide equal outcomes regardless of work or merit.<\/p>\n<p>And once one has cut to the chase, D&#8217;Souza&#8217;s main thesis is that Obama&#8217;s genuine goal, indicated by the people who&#8217;ve influenced him whether present or absent throughout his life, is to do the same for nations; to cut America down to the same level as the rest of the world.<\/p>\n<p>And even with the spoilers, you should go anyway.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>I&#8217;ve been a huge Dinesh D&#8217;Souza fan since I read his\u00a0Reagan: How An Ordinary Man Became An Extraordinary President over a decade ago; it may have been the best Reagan bio ever.
