{"id":29892,"date":"2012-08-27T06:00:45","date_gmt":"2012-08-27T11:00:45","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.shotinthedark.info\/wp\/?p=29892"},"modified":"2020-12-21T05:30:03","modified_gmt":"2020-12-21T11:30:03","slug":"more-of-that-vaunted-democrat-tolerance-for-dissent","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.shotinthedark.info\/wp\/?p=29892","title":{"rendered":"More Of That Vaunted Democrat Tolerance For Dissent"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>When you live in a Democrat stronghold like Saint Paul, you get used to the idea that your political signs are expendable. \u00a0Every single year, I put signs out on my lawn, on a modestly busy street (which is busier now that University looks like Stalingrad).<\/p>\n<p>And every year, they are stolen, or destroyed, almost immediately. \u00a0I think I had a sign last a week or two once. \u00a0 It happens to every single one of the Republican neighbors I have (who are rare, but do exist). \u00a0We&#8217;ve noticed over the years how uncanny it is, that our signs &#8211; on every street, simultaneously &#8211; will get vandalized.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;It&#8217;s just kids&#8221;, say the local DFL operatives. \u00a0But for whatever reason my DFLer neighbor&#8217;s Dayton\/Obama\/Franken\/McCollum\/Klobuchar\/Kerry signs never got touched, even as serial waves of GOP contender signs did. \u00a0Wonder why that was?<\/p>\n<p>But that&#8217;s in St. Paul, a city with decades of one-party government.<\/p>\n<p>Up in the Alexandria, the Republicans are more established and the Democrats are more desperate.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone\" src=\"https:\/\/sphotos-a.xx.fbcdn.net\/hphotos-ash3\/523184_4091410076149_1009559785_n.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"576\" height=\"432\" \/><\/p>\n<p>It says &#8220;Don&#8217;t Feed the Animals&#8221;. \u00a0It&#8217;s a reference to a line from a Franson video earlier this year in which the freshman conservative rep said welfare treated people like animals. \u00a0The <a href=\"http:\/\/www.shotinthedark.info\/wp\/?p=26761\">left yanked a sentence or two out of context<\/a> to make it sound like Franson was claiming welfare recipients\u00a0<em>were\u00a0<\/em>animals, and have spent months on a fairly unseemly <a href=\"http:\/\/www.shotinthedark.info\/wp\/?p=26761\">heckling campaign<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Her opponent&#8217;s main campaign point, to the extent that he has one, has been trying to tie Franson to that non-statement.<\/p>\n<p>It&#8217;s not isolated; the same stencil was apparently used on dozens of Franson&#8217;s signs. \u00a0Whoever did this put a fair amount of effort into it.<\/p>\n<p>Now, the opponent would be stupid to actively approve such a move. \u00a0It&#8217;s a lot more likely that&#8217;s \u00a0an overzealous campaign volunteer doing some credit work.<\/p>\n<p>Seriously &#8211; stencils? \u00a0That&#8217;s pretty elaborate, even for Saint Paul-level anti-GOP hate.<\/p>\n<p>This is what Republicans face out there, no matter where they are.<\/p>\n<p>Franson&#8217;s hoping to replace the signs, by the way &#8211; and unlike her opponent, she doesn&#8217;t have Alida Messinger pelting her with checks. \u00a0If you&#8217;ve got a <a href=\"http:\/\/fransonforstatehouse.com\/\">buck or two to peel off to help<\/a>, she could use it.<\/p>\n<p>In a year when all the Democrats have is chanting points and a failed president, you can expect a lot of this.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>When you live in a Democrat stronghold like Saint Paul, you get used to the idea that your political signs are expendable. \u00a0Every single year, I put signs out on my lawn, on a modestly busy street (which is busier now that University looks like Stalingrad).
