{"id":29779,"date":"2012-08-23T12:50:30","date_gmt":"2012-08-23T17:50:30","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.shotinthedark.info\/wp\/?p=29779"},"modified":"2020-12-21T05:30:03","modified_gmt":"2020-12-21T11:30:03","slug":"brian-barnes-are-you-now-or-have-you-ever-been-teh-extre3m","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.shotinthedark.info\/wp\/?p=29779","title":{"rendered":"Brian Barnes:  &#8220;Are You Now Or Have You Ever Been Teh ExTrE3M?&#8221;"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Brian Barnes is running for Congress in the 3rd CD.<\/p>\n<p>You might not have heard of him, even if you live there. \u00a0He&#8217;s run a fairly hapless, lackluster campaign, with none of the cachet or pizzazz of Ashwin Madia. \u00a0 I think the only serious question about his campaign so far has been &#8220;is Erik Paulsen going to win by two digits, or three?&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>But there&#8217;s another question worth asking, too: \u00a0where the hell does he get his information?<\/p>\n<p>At a &#8220;Drinking Liberally&#8221; event on Monday night, Barnes gave his opinion on Erik Paulsen&#8217;s police union endorsements. \u00a0A tracker got some tape:<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" width=\"560\" height=\"315\" src=\"http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/EOxwiyVQypk\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><br \/>\n(Note:\u00a0<em>Not\u00a0<\/em>a celebrity impersonator)<\/p>\n<p>Here&#8217;s the transcript, with emphasis added:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\u201cHe\u2019s got some signs that say police endorsed and the interesting thing is that is a group that is very, uh, the group that endorsed him is a <strong>group of extreme right wing, uh, law enforcement support group<\/strong> that puts up a fa\u00e7ade if you will\u2026\u201d Brian Barnes 8\/20\/2012<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>The police unions are &#8220;Extreme Right Wing?&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The\u00a0Minnesota\u00a0Police and Peace Officers Association endorsed Amy Klobuchar. \u00a0They also endorsed Mark Dayton and Tarryl Clark in 2010.<\/p>\n<p>The Fraternal Order of Police have\u00a0also endorsed Amy Klobuchar, not to mention &#8220;extreme conservatives&#8221; like Ann Rest, Joe Atkins, Jim Carlson and plenty of others (as well as John Kline and a few other Republicans).<\/p>\n<p>Both organizations also opposed the bipartisan Minnesota Personal Protection Act (the 2003-2005 carry reform bill) and Tony Cornish&#8217;s &#8220;Stand Your Ground&#8221; bill, which passed the legislature with bipartisan support but was vetoed by Governor Bored Dilettante, who used the Police unions&#8217; statements to &#8220;justify&#8221; the veto in much the same way as Germany used the &#8220;Battle of Gleiwitz&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p>So why would Barnes call the seemingly left-of-center police unions &#8220;extreme right wing?&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Given the left&#8217;s nationwide reliance on &#8220;low-information voters&#8221; and the fact that Twin Cities leftybloggers are the lowest-information voters of all, is he just saying it because he knows nobody will check him on it?<\/p>\n<p>Had he had too many drinks already?<\/p>\n<p>Or was he so depressed at being in that throng of misanthropic mopes that he just didn&#8217;t give a crap anymore?<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Brian Barnes is running for Congress in the 3rd CD.
