{"id":2949,"date":"2008-07-29T06:25:00","date_gmt":"2008-07-29T11:25:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.shotinthedark.info\/wp\/?p=2949"},"modified":"2008-07-29T06:25:00","modified_gmt":"2008-07-29T11:25:00","slug":"process-people","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.shotinthedark.info\/wp\/?p=2949","title":{"rendered":"Process People"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I got into the world of business (and out of the world of media and\/or bars) about fifteen years ago.<\/p>\n<p>After I&#8217;d been in the racket about eight or nine years, I remember sitting in a meeting, to meet a new director for an IT department I was with.<br \/>\n&#8220;I&#8217;m a <em>process<\/em> person&#8221;, he said, confidently.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Polish up your resume&#8221;, I whispered to the co-worker next to me.<\/p>\n<p>I was right, of course.\u00a0 When a person has to advertise himself as a &#8220;process person&#8221;, it&#8217;s generally because they&#8217;ve found a) it&#8217;s easier than focusing on delivering things, and b) has found a ready-enough market of companies whose intrinsic processes are so dysfunctional that he&#8217;s been able to string sort of a career together.\u00a0 Organizations that are dysfunctional enough to need &#8220;process people&#8221; are generally too hopeless to be fixed by tweaking &#8220;process&#8221;; they need to be gutted and started over.\u00a0 In the meantime, if you&#8217;re stuck with a &#8220;process person&#8221; for a manager &#8211; well, see the beginning of the post.<\/p>\n<p>And it goes double for people who pronounce the word processes like &#8220;pro-ses-SEES&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p>All by way of saying I&#8217;ve lived <a href=\"http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=kU9YeOQm3Y0\">this video<\/a> way too many times.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>I got into the world of business (and out of the world of media and\/or bars) about fifteen years ago.
