{"id":294,"date":"2007-01-03T11:00:29","date_gmt":"2007-01-03T17:00:29","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/shotinthedark.info\/wp\/index.php\/2007\/01\/03\/where-credit-is-due-2\/"},"modified":"2011-09-01T07:53:45","modified_gmt":"2011-09-01T12:53:45","slug":"where-credit-is-due-2","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.shotinthedark.info\/wp\/?p=294","title":{"rendered":"Where Credit Is Due"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I gotta hand it to Keith Ellison; although I think he&#8217;s well on his way to being a <em>terrible <\/em>Congressional representative, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/wp-dyn\/content\/article\/2007\/01\/03\/AR2007010300075_pf.html\">this is a pretty smooth move<\/a>.\u00a0 For his controversial swearing-in on the Qu&#8217;ran tomorrow&#8230;:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>We&#8217;ve learned that the new congressman &#8212; in a savvy bit of political symbolism &#8212; will hold the personal copy [of the Qu&#8217;ran] once owned by <strong>Thomas Jefferson<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;He wanted to use a Koran that was special,&#8221; said <strong>Mark Dimunation<\/strong>, chief of the rare book and special collections division at the Library of Congress, who was contacted by the Minnesota Dem early in December. Dimunation, who grew up in Ellison&#8217;s 5th District, was happy to help.<\/p>\n<p>Jefferson&#8217;s copy is an English translation by <strong>George Sale<\/strong> published in the 1750s; it survived the 1851 fire that destroyed most of Jefferson&#8217;s collection and has his customary initialing on the pages.
