{"id":29365,"date":"2012-08-03T08:21:10","date_gmt":"2012-08-03T13:21:10","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.shotinthedark.info\/wp\/?p=29365"},"modified":"2012-08-03T22:12:53","modified_gmt":"2012-08-04T03:12:53","slug":"this-is-your-obama-recovery-july-addition","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.shotinthedark.info\/wp\/?p=29365","title":{"rendered":"This Is Your Obama Recovery, July Edition"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The latest BLS statistics are out. \u00a0The media are portraying this as a mild win for the Administration.<\/p>\n<p>It&#8217;s not<\/p>\n<p>The <a href=\"http:\/\/data.bls.gov\/timeseries\/LNS14000000\">unemployment rate ticked up to 8.3<\/a>% &#8211; which is about .3% higher than the peak &#8220;The One&#8221; promised before unleashing Porkulus.<\/p>\n<p>But worse than that? \u00a0The <a href=\"http:\/\/data.bls.gov\/timeseries\/LNS11300000\">Labor Force Participation Rate<\/a>, which this past April was the lowest it&#8217;d been in thirty years (68.6%) before ticking up in May and June, dropped another tenth to 68.7%. \u00a0That&#8217;s a good chunk of the reason the unemployment rate held as steady as it did &#8211; people left the workforce.<\/p>\n<p>What that means, if you remove the unemployment rate from the participation rate, is that 58.41% of the workforce is working. \u00a0That is&#8230;:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>2.16% (3.6 million people) worse than when Obama took office in January of 2009.<\/li>\n<li>Two and a half points &#8211; 3.7 million or so &#8211; lower than George W. Bush&#8217;s worst record, and 5.3% lower than Bush&#8217;s peak (that&#8217;s over seven million jobs)<\/li>\n<li>Almost a tenth of a power <em>lower <\/em>than when unemployment &#8220;peaked&#8221; at 10%, in October of 2009<\/li>\n<li>4.2% &#8211; thats 6.3 million jobs &#8211; lower than the nadir of the 9\/11 Recession.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Put another way? \u00a0It&#8217;s been three years since more than 59% of the American people were working.<\/p>\n<p>How long can economy sustain itself with less than three out of five people working?<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The latest BLS statistics are out. \u00a0The media are portraying this as a mild win for the Administration.
