I met my old friend “Lucky” Carroll, long-time DFL political operative and currently head meme-buffer for Alliance for a Better MInnesota, for a drink the other day. \u00a0As usual, she’d started before I got there. \u00a0Long before.<\/p>\n
ME: (to waitress<\/em>): Bring me a vodka sour. (to Carroll<\/em>) \u00a0So whatcha been up to?<\/p>\n CARROLL: \u00a0(four empty cocktail glasses in front of her<\/em>) I’ve been working to defeat the Voter Suppression Amendment.<\/p>\n ME: \u00a0Ah, the Voter ID Amendment. \u00a0Right. \u00a0So why would you want to defeat an amendment that would ensure that the integrity of our election system isn’t eroded by systematic fraud?<\/p>\n CARROLL: \u00a0Because we have the best election system in the world! (Finishes gin and tonic<\/em>)<\/p>\n ME: OK well, currently the amendment is running about 2:1 in favor. \u00a0So what if a solid majority of Minnesota voters say that they want <\/em>Voter ID?<\/p>\n CARROLL: \u00a0Then we’ll sue until the law gets thrown out anyway!<\/p>\n ME: \u00a0Wait – so you’ll disenfranchise a solid majority of Minnesota voters….<\/p>\n CARROLL: \u00a0The best voting system in\u00a0the universe<\/em>!<\/p>\n
