{"id":2906,"date":"2008-07-21T07:00:39","date_gmt":"2008-07-21T12:00:39","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.shotinthedark.info\/wp\/?p=2906"},"modified":"2008-07-21T09:13:47","modified_gmt":"2008-07-21T14:13:47","slug":"premature-celebration","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.shotinthedark.info\/wp\/?p=2906","title":{"rendered":"Premature Celebration"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Sean at MNPublius <a href=\"http:\/\/mnpublius.com\/2008\/07\/nouri-al-malaki-endorses-obama-iraq-plans\/\">does the endzone happy dance<\/a> over Iraqi leader Maliki&#8217;s &#8220;endorsement&#8221; of The Messiah&#8217;s &#8220;withdrawal plan&#8221;:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>Obviously\u2009\u2014\u2009this is huge. <strong>The Democratically elected leader of Iraq says that Barack Obama\u2019s withdrawal plan<\/strong> (1 or 2 brigades a month, somewhere between 6-8 thousand people a month) <strong>is the right idea<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Er, let&#8217;s shoot for accuracy here; Maliki agrees with The Messiah&#8217;s <em>latest <\/em>plan.  The one he put forward <em>after <\/em>the surge (<a href=\"http:\/\/citizensforbarackobama.blogspot.com\/2007\/01\/obama-opposes-troop-surge-in-iraq.html\">which The Messiah opposed<\/a>) made the whole notion of withdrawal responsible enough for Iraq to consider:<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/hotair.com\/archives\/2008\/07\/19\/maliki-obamas-16-month-timetable-sounds-good\/\">Allahpundit<\/a>, with emphasis added by me:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>The unasked follow-up question: How about the 14-month timetable that Obama wanted to set <a href=\"http:\/\/obama.senate.gov\/speech\/070130-floor_statement_8\/\">in January 2007<\/a> to start pulling troops out before those positive developments could occur? How keen does that look in hindsight?<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>(Hindsight?  Leftybloggers don&#8217;t <em>need<\/em> no steenkin&#8217; hindsight!)<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>To repeat a point made <a href=\"http:\/\/hotair.com\/archives\/2008\/07\/18\/more-hope-and-change-bush-maliki-agree-to-general-time-horizon-for-withdrawal\/\">yesterday<\/a>, the <strong>only reason a timetable or \u201ctime horizon\u201d is arguably a responsible strategy <em>now<\/em> is because it was properly rejected as being irresponsible <em>then<\/em><\/strong>.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Sean missed this part of Maliki&#8217;s statement:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>Maliki hints at that in another part of the interview:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>So far the Americans have had trouble agreeing to a concrete timetable for withdrawal, because they feel it would appear tantamount to an admission of defeat. But that isn\u2019t the case at all. If we come to an agreement, <strong>it is not evidence of a defeat, but of a victory, of a severe blow we have inflicted on al-Qaida and the militias<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Exactly, which at least partly explains why Bush is more willing to compromise now on some sort of informal schedule. Compare Maliki\u2019s justification for the timetable to Obama\u2019s justification in his <a href=\"http:\/\/my.barackobama.com\/page\/community\/post\/amandascott\/gGxkFr\">big Iraq speech<\/a>. <strong>The pacification of the country is almost incidental, something to congratulate Petraeus on and then quickly move past<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Most of us want to embrace the victory that our troops &#8211; and tens of thousands of brave Iraqi troops, and the millions of citizens that the troops won over through <em>killing Al-Quaeda and pacifying the religious militias<\/em> &#8211; <a href=\"http:\/\/michaelyon-online.com\/index.php?option=com_content&#038;view=article&#038;id=1690:success-in-iraq&#038;catid=34:dispatches&#038;Itemid=55\">seem to have won<\/a>.   Obama just wants to gloss it over.<\/p>\n<p>Other than all of that, though?  Sure.  It&#8217;s a ringing endorsement of The Messiah&#8217;s sagacity.<\/p>\n<p>Hey &#8211; does anyone remember when <a href=\"http:\/\/www.applematters.com\/article\/2006\/11\/30\/\">the left thought Maliki<\/a> was just a <a href=\"http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=MdUHOZvEnx8\">stooge<\/a> <a href=\"http:\/\/www.globalresearch.ca\/index.php?context=va&#038;aid=5109\">of the<\/a> <a href=\"http:\/\/sweetness-light.com\/archive\/cindy-sheehan-blames-al-maliki-for-breaking-her-fast\">Bushes<\/a>?<\/p>\n<p>Why, sure I do!<\/p>\n<p>UPDATE:  Of course, the above only counts if Maliki really said what Sean said he said &#8211; if it made the translation from Arabic to German and then to English correctly and&#8230;  <a href=\"http:\/\/www.cnn.com\/2008\/WORLD\/meast\/07\/19\/almaliki.obama\/\"><em>ach du lieber<\/em>!<\/a> <em>Und <a href=\"http:\/\/hotair.com\/archives\/2008\/07\/19\/maliki-obamas-16-month-timetable-sounds-good\/\">ach, Dolmetschung is so schwehr<\/a><\/em><a href=\"http:\/\/hotair.com\/archives\/2008\/07\/19\/maliki-obamas-16-month-timetable-sounds-good\/\">!<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Well, of course, if they got the political context right&#8230;<\/p>\n<p>Right?<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.commentarymagazine.com\/blogs\/index.php\/boot\/17041 \">D&#8217;oh!<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Sean at MNPublius does the endzone happy dance over Iraqi leader Maliki&#8217;s &#8220;endorsement&#8221; of The Messiah&#8217;s &#8220;withdrawal plan&#8221;: Obviously\u2009\u2014\u2009this is huge.
