{"id":28765,"date":"2012-07-03T12:00:12","date_gmt":"2012-07-03T17:00:12","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.shotinthedark.info\/wp\/?p=28765"},"modified":"2012-07-03T10:50:55","modified_gmt":"2012-07-03T15:50:55","slug":"things-im-supposed-to-hate-but-dont-cold-weather","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.shotinthedark.info\/wp\/?p=28765","title":{"rendered":"Things I&#8217;m Supposed To Hate But Don&#8217;t: Cold Weather"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Yeah, I know &#8211; commuting in the winter sucks. \u00a0And shoveling and hauling kids to the bus stop and winter heating bills and spinouts and having the whole city shut down by blizzards are all trying. \u00a0I get that.<\/p>\n<p>But given a choice between this reeking, stinking, bug-infested, malarial, allergy-ridden, dripping, moldy, plague-ship weather like we have now, and the crisp, bracing zip of a cool winter day &#8211; say, anything above 10 degrees &#8211; there is only one sane choice, now, isn&#8217;t there?<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone\" src=\"http:\/\/www.eudorareporter.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/01\/Winter-Weather.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"509\" height=\"340\" \/><\/p>\n<p>I&#8217;m not talking sloppy, dirty, road-boogery-y, long-overstayed-its-welcome, hacking cough and tickle in the back of the throat on top of cabin-fever-y February weather. \u00a0I&#8217;m talking December, maybe early January, when the pollen is a distant memory and the cold is just a cool, bracing tang in the air.<\/p>\n<p>It&#8217;s a scientific fact that, in the long view, most peoples&#8217; memories of winter are like this&#8230;<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone\" src=\"http:\/\/static.guim.co.uk\/sys-images\/Guardian\/Pix\/pictures\/2009\/12\/22\/1261522824699\/Winter-weather-in-Basings-001.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"460\" height=\"276\" \/><\/p>\n<p>&#8230;while to most normal people, the kind of heat wave we&#8217;re in now is a lot more like this:<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone\" src=\"http:\/\/www.daveswarbirds.com\/guadalcanal\/pics\/ground\/matanikou1.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"475\" height=\"385\" \/><\/p>\n<p>And the household pests! \u00a0In this kind of weather&#8230;:<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone\" src=\"http:\/\/cache.gawkerassets.com\/assets\/images\/8\/2010\/12\/mosquito_malaria.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"537\" height=\"386\" \/><\/p>\n<p>&#8230;versus the winter:<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone\" src=\"http:\/\/ephsfoleybiomes.pbworks.com\/f\/Arctic-Fox-00001b.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"576\" height=\"364\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Seriously, it&#8217;s hardly a choice.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Yeah, I know &#8211; commuting in the winter sucks. \u00a0And shoveling and hauling kids to the bus stop and winter heating bills and spinouts and having the whole city shut down by blizzards are all trying. \u00a0I get that.
