{"id":28302,"date":"2012-06-04T06:00:45","date_gmt":"2012-06-04T11:00:45","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.shotinthedark.info\/wp\/?p=28302"},"modified":"2012-06-03T13:09:25","modified_gmt":"2012-06-03T18:09:25","slug":"projection","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.shotinthedark.info\/wp\/?p=28302","title":{"rendered":"Projection"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Dallas Pierson &#8211; who, his roving camera and excellent vid-blog &#8220;<a href=\"http:\/\/mncd4conservative.blogspot.com\/\">MNCD4 Conservative<\/a>&#8221; may be one of the better journalists in the Twin Cities alternative media &#8211; happened by the DFL convention in Rochester over the weekend.<\/p>\n<p>And what he saw boggled the mind.<\/p>\n<p>The DFL was proposing a rule change allowing absentee balloting for presidential\u00a0<em>straw polls<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>Rick Varco &#8211; a DFL activist from Highland Park and part of St. Paul&#8217;s DFL machine &#8211; objected:<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/rMumk3Q1X9s\" frameborder=\"0\" width=\"460\" height=\"259\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>Varco:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>I&#8217;m against this for three reasons. \u00a0One, I don&#8217;t believe the Central Committee can come up with any mechanism that will genuinely prevent anyone from printing up a stack of absentee ballots, submitting, them, and submitting them for a presidential candidate.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Got that? \u00a0The sanctity of the DFL&#8217;s <em>straw polls<\/em>\u00a0&#8211; the meaningless non-binding votes for President held on precinct caucus night &#8211; demands the sort of scrutiny&#8230;<\/p>\n<p>&#8230;that are racist and exclusionary for general elections?<\/p>\n<p>Chuck Repke &#8211; the fellow who in 2007 demanded that Tim Pawlenty be tried for <em>intentional homicide <\/em>for the 35W bridge collapse &#8211; followed up:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Your are opening yourself up for absolute insanityy = the potential exists for someone from Citizens United to pack our caucuses with bought and paid for ballots! \u00a0There is no way to protect that, because we allow anyone to attend a caucus! \u00a0We would then have to allow any ballot at the caucus, no matter which Koch brother paid for it!<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>But, apparently, not ACORN or George Soros.<\/p>\n<p>It&#8217;s touching, the concern the DFL has for the sanctity of their <span style=\"font-size: xx-small;\">internal <\/span>elections <span style=\"font-size: xx-small;\">leading to their meaningless endorsement<\/span>. \u00a0Now, if only they had the same care for the state&#8217;s electoral system.<\/p>\n<p>Listen. \u00a0You might be tempted to laugh &#8211; until you realize that they are trying to prevent precisely what their party does to our <em>general <\/em>elections.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Dallas Pierson &#8211; who, his roving camera and excellent vid-blog &#8220;MNCD4 Conservative&#8221; may be one of the better journalists in the Twin Cities alternative media &#8211; happened by the DFL convention in Rochester over the weekend.
