{"id":27964,"date":"2012-05-15T12:10:32","date_gmt":"2012-05-15T17:10:32","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.shotinthedark.info\/wp\/?p=27964"},"modified":"2012-05-15T12:11:21","modified_gmt":"2012-05-15T17:11:21","slug":"the-dayton-dustbowl-the-veto-scorecard","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.shotinthedark.info\/wp\/?p=27964","title":{"rendered":"The Dayton Dustbowl: The Veto Scorecard"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Dayton and his minions in the paid PR racket &#8211; and I count the editorial board of the <em>Strib <\/em>among that crowd &#8211; are doing what they can to label this past legislature a &#8220;Do-Nothing&#8221; one.<\/p>\n<p>It&#8217;d be more accurate, naturally, to call it &#8220;The Sandbagged Legislature&#8221;. \u00a0Now, I&#8217;m not going to say all of &#8220;Governor&#8221; Dayton&#8217;s vetoes, even for bills with astonishing bipartisan support, even for bills Dayton himself had claimed to support, seemed to run according to some kind of script or another. \u00a0But I will say that if you look at the video closely, you can see strings attached to his hands and jaw, being pulled by Alita Messinger, Elliiot Seid and Javier Morillo.<\/p>\n<p>But let&#8217;s take a moment to go over the winners and losers from this past few weeks in the legislature:<\/p>\n<p><strong>Losers<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Small businesses<\/strong> &#8211; who lost out on the front-loaded sales tax exemption, the angel investor tax credit, and reforms to Minnesota&#8217;s dismally-high business property taxes.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Students<\/strong> &#8211; who, if you accept that the &#8220;Shift&#8221; that has been a centerpiece of DFL budgetary policy for over a decade actually harms them, surely must have been hurt by Dayton&#8217;s veto of the GOP plan to accelerate the repayment of the &#8220;borrowed&#8221; money. \u00a0Right?<\/li>\n<li><strong>Private sector workers<\/strong>, whose businesses needed the tax help, and whose jobs are in that much more jeopardy today than they were six months ago.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Winners<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Zygi Wilf<\/strong> &#8211; The resale value on his real estate investment has just gotten plumped up astronomically, on the backs of you, the taxpayer. \u00a0Especially in DFL-addled Minneapolis. \u00a0Hey, all you foreclosed DFL-voting homeowners on the North Side &#8211; hope those warm thanks from Zygi Wilf and Jared Allen keep you warm when the Sheriff&#8217;s moving y our stuff out on the lawn!<\/li>\n<li><strong>Minneapolis and Saint Paul<\/strong>\u00a0&#8211; who got a slew of little plums and bailouts. \u00a0Thanks, all you outstate rubes!<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>That&#8217;s a start, anyway.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Dayton and his minions in the paid PR racket &#8211; and I count the editorial board of the Strib among that crowd &#8211; are doing what they can to label this past legislature a &#8220;Do-Nothing&#8221; one.
