{"id":27857,"date":"2012-05-11T07:55:02","date_gmt":"2012-05-11T12:55:02","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.shotinthedark.info\/wp\/?p=27857"},"modified":"2014-10-05T14:39:34","modified_gmt":"2014-10-05T19:39:34","slug":"tom-dooher-is-a-lying-sack-of-garbage","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.shotinthedark.info\/wp\/?p=27857","title":{"rendered":"Tom Dooher Is A Lying Sack Of Garbage"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I&#8217;ve said it over and over &#8211; and every day of new evidence confirms it more; the DFL&#8217;s strategy seems to be &#8220;say whatever we want to (knowing that the media will never, ever contradict us in public, at least not in a way that the majority of voters will ever see or hear), \u00a0regardless of accuracy or truth, to sway the ill-informed, the ignorant, and the not-so-bright. \u00a0Because their votes (and whatever else we can jam through the polls) count just as much as the votes of the smart and informed people&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p>Case in point: \u00a0Education Minnesota president\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.educationminnesota.org\/news\/newsroom\/newsreleases\/2012\/051012-legislature.aspx\">t Tom Dooher&#8217;s statement to the media yesterday as the session drew to a close<\/a>; I&#8217;ve added emphasis:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>&#8220;The 2012 Legislature showed that Minnesotans will have a clear choice in November between leaders who truly value public education and those who view our classrooms as places for political games.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The Republican majority introduced more than 20 bills targeting public education and educators this year. None of them responsibly addressed the most pressing needs of our students, including <strong>repaying the state\u2019s $2 billion IOU to its schools<\/strong>, closing the achievement gap and developing a sustainable funding system for the future.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>It&#8217;s a lie, of course.<\/p>\n<p>The GOP did, in fact, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.google.com\/url?sa=t&amp;rct=j&amp;q=mn%20republicans%20pay%20back%20shift&amp;source=web&amp;cd=1&amp;ved=0CFkQFjAA&amp;url=http%3A%2F%2Fminnesota.publicradio.org%2Fdisplay%2Fweb%2F2012%2F04%2F02%2Fschool-shift-payback-house-action%2F&amp;ei=mwitT7DQGomi8gSLn7n4DA&amp;usg=AFQjCNF0p95QoWKxOVCkhuyHVbHaxTscYw&amp;sig2=v-FMUjRSWAZwPMR8eHF-IA\">propose and pass a bill<\/a> that would have accelerated the repayment of the shift. \u00a0 <a href=\"http:\/\/www.google.com\/url?sa=t&amp;rct=j&amp;q=dayton%20veto%20pay%20back%20shift&amp;source=web&amp;cd=2&amp;ved=0CFwQFjAB&amp;url=http%3A%2F%2Fminnesota.publicradio.org%2Fcollections%2Fspecial%2Fcolumns%2Fpolinaut%2Farchive%2F2012%2F04%2Fdayton_vetoes_b.shtml&amp;ei=wwitT6v-L4f28wSqi_2MDQ&amp;usg=AFQjCNFnsj1nop8wMqNfw3FlpvmrPwlsMw&amp;sig2=eEhI4vEXXZPIFopGjri8Mw\">Governor Fauntelroy vetoed<\/a> it.<\/p>\n<p>This, really, shows several things:<\/p>\n<p><strong>The DFL&#8217;s campaign &#8211; say whatever it takes to win in November, truth be damned, is well underway<\/strong>. \u00a0The unions and Alliance for a Better Minnesota will soon be buying up millions in airtime to saturate this state with ads saying &#8220;The GOP hates kids&#8221;. \u00a0Mark my words.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Your children are the DFL&#8217;s pawns<\/strong>. \u00a0To the extent that the shift actually harms children (it really doesn&#8217;t; it inconveniences administrations), the DFL showed this session that they&#8217;d rather exploit them in November than pay for their education today.<\/p>\n<p><strong>This is what happens when you let &#8220;Right To Work&#8221; die in committee<\/strong>. \u00a0How wonderful would it have been to have every conservative, Republican member of EdMinn walk of the union out <em>en masse <\/em>at this hypocritical slander? \u00a0 Or if the 42% of union members who <em>d<\/em>o vote Republican tell their leadership &#8220;uh, not so fast&#8221; when the unions spend 95% of their dues on Democrats?<\/p>\n<p><em>Apparently some genius in the majority caucus figured if they backed off on Right to Work, the unions would play fair this election<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>This is politics in Minnesota today; one party does the best it can for a better Minnesota; the other does whatever it can to retain power, truth and ethics be damned.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>I&#8217;ve said it over and over &#8211; and every day of new evidence confirms it more; the DFL&#8217;s strategy seems to be &#8220;say whatever we want to (knowing that the media will never, ever contradict us in public, at least not in a way that the majority of voters will ever see or hear), \u00a0regardless [&hellip;]<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":1,"featured_media":0,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"open","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":""},"categories":[56,10,144,130,2,132],"tags":[115],"class_list":["post-27857","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-campaign-12","category-education","category-governor","category-tc-media-bias","category-minnesota-politics","category-mn-legislature","tag-abm"],"_links":{"self":[{"href":"http:\/\/www.shotinthedark.info\/wp\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/posts\/27857","targetHints":{"allow":["GET"]}}],"collection":[{"href":"http:\/\/www.shotinthedark.info\/wp\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"http:\/\/www.shotinthedark.info\/wp\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"http:\/\/www.shotinthedark.info\/wp\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/users\/1"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"http:\/\/www.shotinthedark.info\/wp\/index.php?rest_route=%2Fwp%2Fv2%2Fcomments&post=27857"}],"version-history":[{"count":4,"href":"http:\/\/www.shotinthedark.info\/wp\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/posts\/27857\/revisions"}],"predecessor-version":[{"id":27867,"href":"http:\/\/www.shotinthedark.info\/wp\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/posts\/27857\/revisions\/27867"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"http:\/\/www.shotinthedark.info\/wp\/index.php?rest_route=%2Fwp%2Fv2%2Fmedia&parent=27857"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"http:\/\/www.shotinthedark.info\/wp\/index.php?rest_route=%2Fwp%2Fv2%2Fcategories&post=27857"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"http:\/\/www.shotinthedark.info\/wp\/index.php?rest_route=%2Fwp%2Fv2%2Ftags&post=27857"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
