{"id":2779,"date":"2008-06-26T13:25:56","date_gmt":"2008-06-26T18:25:56","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.shotinthedark.info\/wp\/?p=2779"},"modified":"2008-06-26T14:37:42","modified_gmt":"2008-06-26T19:37:42","slug":"hello-chicago","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.shotinthedark.info\/wp\/?p=2779","title":{"rendered":"Hello, Chicago!"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I&#8217;d love to be at the federal building in Chicago right now.<\/p>\n<p>I wonder how many potential handgun owners are bum-rushing the court administrators right now, filing suits against Chicago&#8217;s gun ban (even more draconian than the DC ban which <em>Heller<\/em> euthanized this morning)?<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/michellemalkin.com\/2008\/06\/26\/gun-battle-heller-time\/\">From<\/a> Page 57 of Scalia&#8217;s opinion:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>It is enough to note, as we have observed, that <strong>the American people have considered the handgun to be the quintessential self-defense weapon<\/strong>. There are many reasons that a citizen may prefer a handgun for home defense: It is easier to store in a location that is readily accessible in an emergency; It cannot easily be redirected or wrestled away by an attacker; it is easier to use for those without the upperbody strength to lift and aim a long gun; it can be pointed at a burglar with one hand while the other hand dials the police. Whatever the reason, handguns are the most popular weapon chosen by Americans for self-defense in the home, and a complete prohibition of their use is invalid.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Even more?\u00a0 Michelle Malkin notes:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>And it\u2019s not just that self-defense is a subsidiary right to the common defense, it\u2019s (page 26) <strong>\u201cthe central component of the right itself.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>And not just self-defense in the sense of immediate threat to life: it\u2019s for the defense of life, family, and property (p.54):<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>The prohibition extends, moreover, to the home, where <strong>the need for defense of self, family, and property<\/strong> is most acute.\u00a0<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>In other words, Chicago\u00a0&#8211; to paraphrase old friend and frequent commenter Angryclown &#8211; your gun ban ain&#8217;t worth <em>dicta<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>UPDATE:\u00a0 Well, <a href=\"http:\/\/cbs2chicago.com\/local\/supreme.court.handguns.2.757471.html\">that didn&#8217;t take long<\/a>!\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Yaaay, NRA!\u00a0<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>I&#8217;d love to be at the federal building in Chicago right now.
