{"id":27726,"date":"2012-05-04T12:00:39","date_gmt":"2012-05-04T17:00:39","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.shotinthedark.info\/wp\/?p=27726"},"modified":"2012-05-04T09:43:50","modified_gmt":"2012-05-04T14:43:50","slug":"this-is-your-obama-recovery-april-edition-2","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.shotinthedark.info\/wp\/?p=27726","title":{"rendered":"This Is Your Obama Recovery, April Edition"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The left and media are crowing &#8211; quietly, if one can indeed crow quietly &#8211; about the &#8220;Drop&#8221; in the unemployment number, from 8.2 to 8.1% in April.<\/p>\n<p>They are being a <em>lot <\/em>more subdued about the much more important number; <a href=\"http:\/\/data.bls.gov\/timeseries\/LNS11300000\">only 63.6% of the labor force from age 16 to retirement is participating in the labor market<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>So when you take 8.1% out of <em>that <\/em>number, it means only 58.45% of the American work force is actually working right now.<\/p>\n<p>Here are some fun facts about the employment figures:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>The month Barack Obama took office, \u00a060.58% of the people were working.<\/li>\n<li>In June of 2009, when the recession officially &#8220;ended&#8221;, the number was was 58.46% &#8211; marginally better than last month.<\/li>\n<li>In October of 2009, when unemployment peaked at 10%? \u00a058.5%.<\/li>\n<li>George Bush&#8217;s numbers went between a low of 61% (as he left office) and a high of around 63.5% in December of &#8217;06.<\/li>\n<li>Wanna chalk Bush&#8217;s numbers up to the mortgage bubble? \u00a0Not so fast: there are about 4.5% fewer people employed now than at this time ten years ago, as the economy was recuperating from the Dot Bomb<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>So many people have left the labor force, it&#8217;s <a href=\"http:\/\/www.zerohedge.com\/news\/its-official-st-louis-feds-not-labor-force-data-officially-chart\">literally gone off the top<\/a> of the St. Louis Federal Reserve&#8217;s chart:<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone\" src=\"http:\/\/www.zerohedge.com\/sites\/default\/files\/images\/user5\/imageroot\/2012\/05\/Off%20the%20scale_0.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"360\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Looks like they need a new chart.<\/p>\n<p>So what happens to an economy when less than 3\/5 of the labor force is actually working for an extended period?<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The left and media are crowing &#8211; quietly, if one can indeed crow quietly &#8211; about the &#8220;Drop&#8221; in the unemployment number, from 8.2 to 8.1% in April.
