{"id":2707,"date":"2008-06-13T12:09:36","date_gmt":"2008-06-13T17:09:36","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.shotinthedark.info\/wp\/?p=2707"},"modified":"2008-06-13T12:10:34","modified_gmt":"2008-06-13T17:10:34","slug":"running-amok","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.shotinthedark.info\/wp\/?p=2707","title":{"rendered":"Running Amok"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Thirty-odd years ago, the movie <em>A Bridge Too Far<\/em> generated a\u00a0movie-ratings controversy; a character, a 101st Airborne lieutenant,\u00a0gets shot in the head by a German sniper.\u00a0 James Caan picks up the lieutenant and loads him into the jeep, appearing lifeless; the audience briefly saw a smear of blood covering half the looey&#8217;s face.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Too gory&#8221;, was the response from many not-that-far-off-the-mainstream groups.<\/p>\n<p>Today?\u00a0 Leave aside the gore of everything from <em>Alien Versus Predator <\/em>and <em>Saving Private Ryan<\/em>;\u00a0a &#8220;PG13&#8221; movie will include drinking, drug references, and the sort of peek-a-boo, almost-sex references that would have gotten a movie a serious &#8220;R&#8221; when I was a kid, and furthermore all you little bastards get off my lawn.<\/p>\n<p>But just when you wonder if there&#8217;s any point to having standards at all anymore, <a href=\"http:\/\/ww3.startribune.com\/blogs\/bodytalk\/2008\/06\/13\/the-hulk-gratuitous-smoking\/\">we see that <em>someone <\/em>is drawing that line in the sand and taking a stand<\/a>:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>The cigar-puffing General Thaddeus Ross is a bad guy, all right. So bad that leading medical organizations think that the Incredible Hulk should be rated \u201cR.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<blockquote><p>No, it\u2019s not the violence and mayhem Gen.
