{"id":2706,"date":"2008-06-13T08:08:53","date_gmt":"2008-06-13T13:08:53","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.shotinthedark.info\/wp\/?p=2706"},"modified":"2008-06-13T18:00:02","modified_gmt":"2008-06-13T23:00:02","slug":"lifes-greatest-joys","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.shotinthedark.info\/wp\/?p=2706","title":{"rendered":"Life&#8217;s Greatest Joys"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>In order:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li><strike>Rolling down Shep<\/strike>&#8230;Oh, sure, seeing my kids born.\u00a0 That&#8217;s a given, right?<\/li>\n<li>Rolling down Shepard Road from Ford Road down the gorge of the Mississippi River all the way to Sibley [<a href=\"#more-2706\">*<\/a>], with a howling tailwind behind you all the way, on one of the most beautiful mornings of the year.<br \/>\n<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" style=\"width: 452px; height: 304px\" height=\"304\" src=\"http:\/\/users.pop.umn.edu\/~eroberts\/forblog\/meeker1.jpg\" width=\"452\" \/><br \/>\n<font size=\"1\">This&#8217;d be the view from Crosby Park, which is\u00a0about 100 feet <em>below<\/em> the bike path.\u00a0 Bear in mind, this is not the country; this is in the middle of Saint Paul, probably a few hundred yards south of the West End residential neighborhood.<\/font>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0 So gorgeous that even I, a notoriously blase Scando-American who was also in mid-bike-ride, involuntarily went &#8220;Oh, wooooow&#8221; several times.<\/li>\n<li>Driving your enemies before you and hearing the lamentation of his women.<\/li>\n<li>Pretty much everything else.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>That is all.<\/p>\n<p>UPDATE:\u00a0 Natually, no &#8211; that is not all.\u00a0 What was this morning a screaming tailwind is, at the end of the work day, a howling headwind.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Oh, well.\u00a0 It <em>was <\/em>a great start to the day&#8230;<\/p>\n<p><!--more-->[*]\u00a0 Especially east of Montreal, where the path is pretty new.\u00a0 From Fort Road to Alton, it&#8217;s like riding down a Bolivian goat trail.\u00a0 Which would be fine on a mountain bike, but if G*d had intended bikes to ride off road, he&#8217;d have made them full-tracked.\u00a0 Skinny tires; stay on the road.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>In order: Rolling down Shep&#8230;Oh, sure, seeing my kids born.\u00a0 That&#8217;s a given, right?
