{"id":26717,"date":"2012-03-06T12:05:53","date_gmt":"2012-03-06T18:05:53","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.shotinthedark.info\/wp\/?p=26717"},"modified":"2012-03-06T12:29:54","modified_gmt":"2012-03-06T18:29:54","slug":"case-number-one-two-questions","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.shotinthedark.info\/wp\/?p=26717","title":{"rendered":"Case Number One:  Two Questions"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Last month, Minnesota&#8217;s American Civil LIberties Union chapter ran a publicity stunt, offering a thousand dollar reward for an example of a case of voter fraud that a Voter ID Amendment would have caught.<\/p>\n<p>Today, the Minnesota Majority took the stunt ball and rran, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.startribune.com\/politics\/statelocal\/141590563.html?utm_source=twitterfeed&amp;utm_medium=twitter\">producing a case and putting in its clam for the reward<\/a>:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Dan McGrath, executive director of Minnesota Majority, produced court records from an Anoka County case involving voting in the 2008 election. The records concern an Andover woman who was charged with three felonies. According to the records, prosecutors believe she voted in person in her own name, and by absentee ballot in the name of her daughter, who was away at college.<\/p>\n<p>The daughter also voted near her college in the same election. The mother, according to records produced by McGrath, pleaded guilty to one of the charges and was sentenced to probation in August of 2011.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>I&#8221;ll be asking McGrath for the names. \u00a0I&#8217;ll bet dimes to dollars the woman voted DFL both times.<\/p>\n<p>But that&#8217;s not really the subject of this post.<\/p>\n<p>No, I have two other observations.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Is Jim Ragsdale Gunning For Lori Sturdevant&#8217;s Gig?<\/strong>: Ragsdale kicked off his piece with the following, to which I&#8217;ve added emphasis:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>A <strong>small conservative<\/strong> activist group known as the Minnesota Majority, which has been investigating voting irregularities in Minnesota for years, claimed a $1,000 prize offered by the ACLU for finding a case of fraud that a photo ID requirement would have prevented.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>So the MInnesota Majority is &#8220;small&#8221; and &#8220;conservative&#8221; &#8211; but the ACLU is omniscient and balanced?<\/p>\n<p>Why does Ragsdale feel the need to \u00a0label Minnesota Majority&#8217;s ideology but not that of the ACLU?<\/p>\n<p>And why does he call it &#8220;small&#8221;, when the MM likely puts more activists out in the field on any given day than the ACLU &#8211; which is, let&#8217;s not forget, a couple of lawyers in an office in Saint Paul and a &#8220;membership&#8221; that is largely a list of donors?<\/p>\n<p>Mr. Ragsdale: \u00a0Editorialize much?<\/p>\n<p><strong>So How Much Fraud <em>Does <\/em>The Left Find Acceptable?<\/strong>: Greta Bergstrom, who works for &#8220;Take Action Minnesota&#8221;, <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/#!\/GretaABergstrom\/status\/177063409215475712\">tweeted<\/a>:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>A college student was impersonated by her mom. Seriously? This is the &#8220;voting threat&#8221; in MN? #mnleg #stribpol<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Let&#8217;s try to illustrate this for you. \u00a0Let&#8217;s say that the Koch Brothers forges a ballot on a referendum to ban abortion. \u00a0That forged ballot negated the vote of one pro-choice woman. \u00a0Would <em>that <\/em>level of fraud be acceptable? \u00a0Just one pro-choice woman?<\/p>\n<p>Think hard, Greta. \u00a0Crank that finely-honed progressive propaganda-bot mind up to &#8220;puree&#8221; and cough up an answer.<\/p>\n<p>You can do it. \u00a0I just know you can.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Last month, Minnesota&#8217;s American Civil LIberties Union chapter ran a publicity stunt, offering a thousand dollar reward for an example of a case of voter fraud that a Voter ID Amendment would have caught.
