{"id":26053,"date":"2012-02-09T12:00:11","date_gmt":"2012-02-09T18:00:11","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.shotinthedark.info\/wp\/?p=26053"},"modified":"2012-02-08T04:11:30","modified_gmt":"2012-02-08T10:11:30","slug":"the-not-so-paper-bull","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.shotinthedark.info\/wp\/?p=26053","title":{"rendered":"The Not-So-Paper Bull?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>This morning, I wrote to agree with Chad the Elder that the Catholic grass roots didn&#8217;t look like they cared that much about religious freedom &#8211; in part because a Catholic (indeed, Christian) laity was pretty much desensitized. like the fabled &#8220;frog in boiling water&#8221;, to the effects of losing that freedom, and that their leadership hadn&#8217;t done much to change that in a few decades.<\/p>\n<p>On the other hand? \u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/newyork.cbslocal.com\/2012\/02\/06\/catholic-league-poised-to-go-to-war-with-obama-over-mandatory-birth-control-payments\/\">Maybe there&#8217;s some hope<\/a>:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Catholic leaders are furious and determined to harness the voting power of the nation\u2019s 70 million Catholic voters to stop a provision of President Barack Obama\u2019s new heath car reform bill that will force Catholic schools, hospitals and charities to buy birth control pills, abortion-producing drugs and sterilization coverage for their employees.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNever before, unprecedented in American history, for the federal government to line up against the Roman Catholic Church,\u201d said Catholic League head Bill Donohue.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Already Archbishop Timothy Dolan has spoken out against the law and priests around the country have mobilized, reading letters from the pulpit.
