{"id":2571,"date":"2008-05-30T05:16:24","date_gmt":"2008-05-30T10:16:24","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.shotinthedark.info\/wp\/?p=2571"},"modified":"2008-05-26T20:13:53","modified_gmt":"2008-05-27T01:13:53","slug":"welcome-home","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.shotinthedark.info\/wp\/?p=2571","title":{"rendered":"Welcome Home, 817th Engineers"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I wrote last year for Veteran&#8217;s Day about <a href=\"http:\/\/www.shotinthedark.info\/wp\/?p=1607\">the history of the North Dakota National Guard from the Spanish-American War through Iraq<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>There was a bit of current history I&#8217;d missed; Jamestown&#8217;s National Guard company (renamed again &#8211; it&#8217;s now the 817th Engineer Company (Sapper), specializing in minefield clearance) has done its second tour in Iraq (the first was almost four years ago, as Company B\/141st Combat Engineers).\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>And <a href=\"https:\/\/secure.forumcomm.com\/jamestown\/articles\/index.cfm?page=purchase&#038;id=64063&#038;CFID=35493358&#038;CFTOKEN=35745386&#038;jsessionid=8830886332731624402a\">I&#8217;m happy to relate<\/a>&#8230;:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Soldiers of the 817th Engineer Company (Sapper) are tentatively scheduled to return from their one-year tour of duty in Iraq to Ft.
