I met my old friend, Inge Carroll (whom everyone calls “Lucky”) at a local watering hole to compare notes about politics the other day. \u00a0Lucky is a DFL operative.<\/p>\n

CARROLL: So did you see teh article? \u00a0Teh Republican party said came into offices saying they were going to create jobs,but they have cost 16,000 jobs!<\/p>\n

MITCH: For starters, why do you always pronounce “the” as “teh” after you drink cosmpolitans? \u00a0And then, huh? \u00a0You’ve missed the news? Minnesota’s unemployment rate is down<\/em><\/a>.<\/p>\n

CARROLL: \u00a0You are teh lier! \u00a0Didn’t you hear it on teh MPR? \u00a0Teh Republican policies have cost 16,000 jobs! \u00a0That means all of you Rethuglicons are TEH LIER!<\/p>\n

(CARROLL orders another cosmopolitan)<\/p>\n

MITCH: Um, what on earth are you talking about? \u00a0Minnesota is recovering from the recession faster than other states, largely because <\/em>the GOP stood off Dayton’s orgy of taxes and regulations.<\/p>\n

CARROLL: \u00a0Hah! \u00a0You didn’t read the article, did you? \u00a0You don’t even know what I”m talking about!<\/p>\n

MITCH: \u00a0Well, that’d make two of us, if it were true – but yes, I read it<\/a>. It says that because of LGA cuts, local government are having to either raise taxes, or cut government jobs, or both.<\/p>\n

CARROLL: \u00a0Yep? \u00a016,000 jobs!<\/p>\n

MITCH: \u00a0OK. \u00a0Well, sorry to hear that – being out of work sucks. But what, you think government jobs are sacrosanct?<\/p>\n

CARROLL: \u00a0Oh, I think people kind of like having teachers and firemen and cops and services.<\/p>\n

MITCH: \u00a0Well, at face value, it looks more like people in towns around Minnesota like to have them – provided they can get someone else to pay for them. \u00a0When they have to pay for them themselves, not so much.<\/p>\n

CARROLL: \u00a0(Glares at MITCH): \u00a0 Why do you hate the troops?<\/p>\n
