You probably like <a title=\"More articles about Barack Obama\" href=\"http:\/\/topics.nytimes.com\/top\/reference\/timestopics\/people\/o\/barack_obama\/index.html?inline=nyt-per\"><font color=\"#004276\">Barack Obama<\/font><\/a>, too.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>I keep tons of olive oil around, I love granola (don&#8217;t care about brands, but then what guy does?).\u00a0 Lattes leave me cold.\u00a0 I&#8217;d just as soon vote for Jimmy Carter again.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Supporters of Barack Obama prefer Bear Naked cereal. Hillary Clinton\u2019s fans like GoLean. For John McCain\u2019s supporters, Fiber One is favored.And if you\u2019re leaning toward <a title=\"More articles about John McCain.\" href=\"http:\/\/topics.nytimes.com\/top\/reference\/timestopics\/people\/m\/john_mccain\/index.html?inline=nyt-per\"><font color=\"#004276\">John McCain<\/font><\/a>, it\u2019s all about kicking back with a bourbon and a stuffed crust <a title=\"More articles about pizza.\" href=\"http:\/\/topics.nytimes.com\/top\/reference\/timestopics\/subjects\/p\/pizza\/index.html?inline=nyt-classifier\"><font color=\"#004276\">pizza<\/font><\/a> while you watch the Democrats fight it out next week in Pennsylvania.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>That, too,sounds great.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>If what we eat says a lot about who we are, it also says something about how we might vote.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Oh, yeah?<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>For example, Dr Pepper is a Republican soda. Pepsi-Cola and Sprite are Democratic. So are most clear liquors, like gin and vodka, along with white wine and Evian water. Republicans skew toward brown liquors like bourbon or scotch, red wine and Fiji water.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>I do like Diet Dr. P (too much sugar in <em>anything, <\/em>but especially pop, makes me queasy these days.\u00a0 But I vastly prefer clear booze (not that I turn any of it down).\u00a0 And while paying $1,50 for water is anathema, I do like Evian.\u00a0 All water is <em>not <\/em>water.\u00a0\u00a0 (The water from the old Stroh&#8217;s Brewery could cure some hereditary diseases, in fact &#8211; and remains the best water I&#8217;ve ever had in my life).<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>When it comes to fried chicken, he said, Democrats prefer Popeyes and Republicans Chick-fil-A.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>I always thought Chik Fil A was what the Viet Cong yelled when they were about to launch an ambush. Huh.\u00a0 Who knew?<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\u201cAnything organic or more Whole Foods-y skews more Democratic,\u201d Mr. Dowd said.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Bzzzt &#8211; although I usually get my stuff at Mississippi Market; only a Democrat would be dumb enough to pay Whole Foods&#8217; prices.<\/p>\n<p>There&#8217;s a method to the madness, natch:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Political strategists slice and dice the electorate into small segments, starting with traditional demographics like age and income, then mixing consumer information like whether you prefer casinos or cruises, hunting or cooking, a Prius or a pickup.<\/p>\n<p>Once they find small groups of like-minded people, campaigns can efficiently send customized phone, e-mail or direct mail messages to potential supporters, avoiding inefficient one-size-fits-all mailings. Pockets of support that might have gone unnoticed can be ferreted out.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis is essentially the way Williams-Sonoma knows which of its catalogs to send you,\u201d said Christopher Mann of MSHC Partners, a political communications firm, which has used microtargeting to help dozens of successful candidates, including Gov. <a title=\"More articles about Christine O. Gregoire.\" href=\"http:\/\/topics.nytimes.com\/top\/reference\/timestopics\/people\/g\/christine_o_gregoire\/index.html?inline=nyt-per\"><font color=\"#004276\">Christine Gregoire<\/font><\/a> of Washington and Gov.
