{"id":2373,"date":"2008-04-04T12:02:55","date_gmt":"2008-04-04T17:02:55","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.shotinthedark.info\/wp\/?p=2373"},"modified":"2008-04-04T12:02:55","modified_gmt":"2008-04-04T17:02:55","slug":"minnesota-blogs-you-should-be-reading-market-power","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.shotinthedark.info\/wp\/?p=2373","title":{"rendered":"Minnesota Blogs You Should Be Reading: Market Power"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Phil Miller might be known as &#8220;the King Banaian of Mankato&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p>Or he might not.<\/p>\n<p>But &#8220;<a href=\"http:\/\/www.marketpowerblog.com\/\">Market Power<\/a>&#8221; is very worth a read.\u00a0 I liked this bit on non-profits&#8217; penchant for institutional self-glorification:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>There is a statement on a another department&#8217;s bulletin board near my office that states that &#8220;non-profits are the driving force behind change in our community.&#8221;\u00a0 Of course the statement is nonsense aside from its rhetorical content.\u00a0 That something needs to &#8220;change&#8221; means that something is not working well.\u00a0 \u00a0If something is to change, someone has to realize it and he must take actions to make things work better.\u00a0 That means he has to have the right incentives.\u00a0 Why is it that the incentives are better and\/or the information use is better in non-profits than in the profit seeking world?<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>At any rate, &#8220;Market Power&#8221; is an excellent economics blog, sort of like &#8220;SCSU Scholars&#8221; but with less Red Sox and &#8211; this is important &#8211; more <a href=\"http:\/\/marketpower.typepad.com\/market_power\/2008\/03\/dry-rye-roggenb.html\">home-brewing recipes<\/a>.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Phil Miller might be known as &#8220;the King Banaian of Mankato&#8221;.
