{"id":2326,"date":"2008-03-26T12:05:07","date_gmt":"2008-03-26T17:05:07","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.shotinthedark.info\/wp\/?p=2326"},"modified":"2008-03-26T12:05:07","modified_gmt":"2008-03-26T17:05:07","slug":"superlatives","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.shotinthedark.info\/wp\/?p=2326","title":{"rendered":"Superlatives"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The term &#8220;Hero&#8221; gets overused terribly these days &#8211; and if there&#8217;s a term that should retain its punch, &#8220;hero&#8221; is it.<\/p>\n<p>Still, to me (and, I think, the vast majority of Americans), anyone that puts his or her life &#8211; family, career, X-box, whatever &#8220;life&#8221; is &#8211; on hold for months or years to answer his or her country&#8217;s call and duke it out with a horde of very evil people in one of the crappiest places in the world, <em>voluntarily, <\/em>is <em>some <\/em>kind of hero.<br \/>\nOne of the best interviews the NARN has had in recent months was with <a href=\"http:\/\/www.google.com\/url?sa=t&#038;ct=res&#038;cd=1&#038;url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.davidbellavia.com%2F&#038;ei=EmHqR663MorkiAHgzay9BQ&#038;usg=AFQjCNE4bmu-K5mVdA_A48Bg1_jTh8ZPIg&#038;sig2=vvOHINJyp6bY1akr_LsoZA\">David Bellavia<\/a>, a former Army squad leader who related his experiences (<a href=\"http:\/\/townhall.com\/talkradio\/show.aspx?radioshowid=7\">listen<\/a>) at the Battle of Fallujah in his book, <em><a href=\"http:\/\/www.google.com\/url?sa=t&#038;ct=res&#038;cd=2&#038;url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.amazon.com%2FHouse-David-Bellavia%2Fdp%2F1416574719&#038;ei=EmHqR663MorkiAHgzay9BQ&#038;usg=AFQjCNEg5D7JiV1cP5MzYpACTZoszmz52Q&#038;sig2=Sa1GgACJJ6bZSaanPetkAQ\">House to House<\/a>.\u00a0 <\/em>If you&#8217;re into that sort of thing, this book is the single best book about grunt-level, house-to-house infantry combat I&#8217;ve ever read &#8211; and I&#8217;ve read a few.\u00a0 It&#8217;s harrowing, will leave you with white knuckles, and is impossible to put down.\u00a0 Just as non-fiction literature alone, it&#8217;s an amazing achievement.<\/p>\n<p>But Bellavia&#8217;s not done yet. Ed <a href=\"http:\/\/hotair.com\/archives\/2008\/03\/26\/vets-for-freedom-david-bellavia\/\">videotaped his appearance at the Veterans For Freedom appearance<\/a> at the Fort Snelling O Club last night &#8211; and noted (with emphasis added)&#8230;:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>The Army awarded him the Bronze Star and Silver Star, and Hegseth warned us that these were just temporary; <strong>he\u2019s under consideration for the Medal of Honor for his bravery<\/strong>, which would make him the first living MoH recipient from this war.
