{"id":21604,"date":"2011-08-04T06:49:06","date_gmt":"2011-08-04T11:49:06","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.shotinthedark.info\/wp\/?p=21604"},"modified":"2011-08-04T07:16:10","modified_gmt":"2011-08-04T12:16:10","slug":"couldnt-see-see-that-one-coming","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.shotinthedark.info\/wp\/?p=21604","title":{"rendered":"Couldn&#8217;t See See That One Coming"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>35W Bridge Memorial <a href=\"http:\/\/www.startribune.com\/local\/minneapolis\/126674373.html\">vandalized<\/a> two days after opening:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Construction worker Rob Bailey went to the Mississippi River on Monday evening, as he had every Aug. 1 for the previous three years, to remember his co-worker and friend Greg &#8220;Jolly&#8221; Jolstad.<\/p>\n<p>He watched as a new memorial to the 35W bridge collapse was unveiled about a quarter-mile upstream from the site of the tragedy.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I go down there to pray every year at 6:05 p.m.,&#8221; said Bailey, who had just stepped off the bridge moments before it collapsed.<\/p>\n<p>Two days after making his pilgrimage, he was stunned to hear that the memorial had been vandalized, with 22 stainless steel letters ripped out of a message affixed to the memorial&#8217;s granite wall.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>The vandals in the Twin Cities are getting out of control.<\/p>\n<p>On the one hand, it&#8217;s just plain depressing.<\/p>\n<p>On the other hand, it&#8217;s tempting to buy two walls on a high-vandalism street, like University or Lake or whatever.\u00a0 Paint them both a pristine white.\u00a0 Post one of them &#8220;Free Public Graffiti Mural&#8221;, and the other one &#8220;No Graffiti&#8221;.\u00a0 See how many people go out of the way to deface the &#8220;No Graffiti&#8221; wall.<\/p>\n<p>And maybe taze them.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>35W Bridge Memorial vandalized two days after opening: Construction worker Rob Bailey went to the Mississippi River on Monday evening, as he had every Aug. 1 for the previous three years, to remember his co-worker and friend Greg &#8220;Jolly&#8221; Jolstad.
