{"id":2153,"date":"2008-02-21T13:25:20","date_gmt":"2008-02-21T18:25:20","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.shotinthedark.info\/wp\/?p=2153"},"modified":"2008-02-21T13:25:20","modified_gmt":"2008-02-21T18:25:20","slug":"casualties-of-technology","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.shotinthedark.info\/wp\/?p=2153","title":{"rendered":"Casualties of Technology"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>As people stay home and watch DVDs on big-honkin&#8217;-screen TVs, the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.twincities.com\/ci_8320324?source=most_viewed\">low-budget second-run movie house<\/a>\u00a0is gradually going the way of the eight-track.<\/p>\n<p>The latest to spiral down the drain &#8211; the Rosevillie 4.<\/p>\n<p>And that hurts:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Tuesday night movies at Roseville 4 Theatre \u2014 where the usual $2 admission is cut in half \u2014 will be gone soon because the theater is closing to accommodate the planned expansion of the adjacent Rainbow Foods grocery store.<\/p>\n<p>Its exit \u2014 expected as early as March 31 \u2014 will leave one bargain theater in the east metro as the standard price of seeing a movie tops $8.<\/p>\n<p>Owners of the Roseville 4 couldn&#8217;t find a new location that offered enough space at lease rates they could afford, said theater manager Barb Guetschoff. &#8220;I have a lot of customers who are really angry,&#8221; she said.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>I&#8217;d be one of &#8217;em.\u00a0 The Roseville was always the kind of place where a guy could <em>afford <\/em>to take the kids, and maybe a few of their friends, to see a movie for under $20, <em>with <\/em>the concessions &#8211; or sneak away for a cheap, low-impact evening out.<\/p>\n<p>Blah.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>As people stay home and watch DVDs on big-honkin&#8217;-screen TVs, the low-budget second-run movie house\u00a0is gradually going the way of the eight-track.
