{"id":20950,"date":"2011-07-06T11:05:47","date_gmt":"2011-07-06T17:05:47","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.shotinthedark.info\/wp\/?p=20950"},"modified":"2012-01-06T14:01:22","modified_gmt":"2012-01-06T20:01:22","slug":"i-shall-form-a-commission","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.shotinthedark.info\/wp\/?p=20950","title":{"rendered":"I Shall Form&#8230;A Commission!"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I hereby announce the formation of a budget resolution commission. \u00a0We shall present recommendations to Governor Dayton and the Legislature to help resolve the budget crisis.<\/p>\n<p>I&#8217;d like to note that this commission is <em>better than bi-partisan &#8211; it&#8217;s tri-partisan<\/em>!\u00a0 \u00a0Beyond that, it actually contains a majority of DFLers.<\/p>\n<p>It includes representatives from the world of alt-media, academia, and politics.<\/p>\n<p>From politics:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Phil Krinkie<\/strong>, former Republican legislator and current head of the Taxpayers League.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Vin Weber<\/strong>, former GOP 2nd District US Congressman.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Randy Kelly<\/strong>, former <strong>DFL<\/strong> mayor of Saint Paul.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Norm Coleman<\/strong>, former <strong>DFL <\/strong>mayor of Saint Paul.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>From academia,<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>King Banaian<\/strong>, former Libertarian Party member, noted economist.<\/li>\n<li><strong>David Strom<\/strong>, former MNSCU instructor, former liberal Democrat.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>From the Alternative Media:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>John Hinderaker<\/strong>, blogger for Powerline, former liberal, and noted lawyer.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Jeff Rosenberg<\/strong> &#8211; liberal blogger from some blog or another.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>This commision should be immune from criticism on the grounds of being &#8220;extremist conservative&#8221;; as noted, most of the members are liberals!<\/p>\n<p>And the commission has issued its report <em>a day ahead of the Carlson\/Mondale <\/em>commission! \u00a0The report calls for&#8230;:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li><strong>A $27 Billion budget<\/strong> that trims spending back to pre-recession levels.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Abolition of several state bureaucracies<\/strong> &#8211; the Departments of Education, Development and Economic Development, Human Rights, Housing Finance, Iron Range Resources and Development, the Met Council and the Metro Sports Facilities Commission will be abolished forthwith. \u00a0Also, the Sunset Bill (HF2 in the previous legislature) will be adopted <em>in toto<\/em>, but with all time-times cut in half.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Immediate State Hiring Freeze<\/strong> &#8211; the state has plenty of workers.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Working toward privatizing public schools by 2015.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Immediate radical cuts in business taxes<\/strong>, including an immediate two week sales tax holiday and a Business Tax Lottery granting one lucky Minnesota business a complete one-quarter exemption from business income taxes every month.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>These recommendations &#8211; which, we hasted to remind you, were developed by a commission made up mostly of liberals &#8211; are of such obvious common sense that we recommend Governor Dayton adopt them immediately, in the interest of bipartisanship.<\/p>\n<p>Because we&#8217;re bipartisan!<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>I hereby announce the formation of a budget resolution commission. \u00a0We shall present recommendations to Governor Dayton and the Legislature to help resolve the budget crisis.
