{"id":20343,"date":"2011-06-01T06:39:03","date_gmt":"2011-06-01T12:39:03","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.shotinthedark.info\/wp\/?p=20343"},"modified":"2012-01-06T14:02:39","modified_gmt":"2012-01-06T20:02:39","slug":"chanting-points-memo-the-cult-of-compromise","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.shotinthedark.info\/wp\/?p=20343","title":{"rendered":"Chanting Points Memo: The Cult Of Compromise"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>In anticipation of tonight&#8217;s game against the Detroit Tigers, who are ten games ahead of the Twins in the AL Central, Twins manager Ron Gardenhire gave a press conference early this morning.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.shotinthedark.info\/wp\/?cat=108\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright\" src=\"http:\/\/farm5.static.flickr.com\/4017\/4575208799_e7c6e34c94.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"252\" height=\"192\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We&#8217;ve done our best to be bipartisan in the run-up to the game&#8221;, said Gardenhire, whose team has a .321 record so far this season. \u00a0&#8220;The Tigers need to compromise!&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>As the team tries to avert a sweep at Detroit&#8217;s &#8220;Filth and Crime Stadium&#8221;, Gardenhire noted &#8220;the Tigers&#8217; manager is being boorish and intransigent; the people overwhelmingly support compromise in tonight&#8217;s game&#8221;, he said, citing a <em>Star Tribune<\/em> Minnesota poll showing fifty random Minneapolis adults support the Tigers forfeiting tonight&#8217;s game.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We&#8217;ve reached out and given enough&#8221;, Gardenhire concluded. \u00a0&#8220;It&#8217;s time for the Tigers to give a little&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p>&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;-<\/p>\n<p>Dayton&#8217;s case for &#8220;compromise&#8221; is about the same as Gardenhire&#8217;s. \u00a0Let&#8217;s get clear on a couple of facts here:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li><strong>Dayton&#8217;s mandate is\u00a0nonexistent<\/strong>: \u00a0Dayton backed into office with 43% of the vote (DFLers will respond &#8220;But Horner favored raising taxes, too!&#8221; \u00a0Perhaps, but you can <em>not <\/em>assume Horner&#8217;s voters supported him because of taxes; indeed, the DFL&#8217;s propaganda machine couldn&#8217;t stop reminding people what a &#8220;Republican&#8221; Horner was during the campaign; it&#8217;d be pretty funny for the DFL to try to have it both ways, but hardly unprecedented.
