{"id":20225,"date":"2011-05-26T11:00:04","date_gmt":"2011-05-26T16:00:04","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.shotinthedark.info\/wp\/?p=20225"},"modified":"2012-10-25T06:26:09","modified_gmt":"2012-10-25T11:26:09","slug":"frequently-asked-questions-2","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.shotinthedark.info\/wp\/?p=20225","title":{"rendered":"Frequently Asked Questions &#8211; II"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I get a lot of questions here at Shot In The Dark. \u00a0Periodically, I like to answer them.<\/p>\n<p>Let&#8217;s start at the top!<\/p>\n<p><strong>&#8220;Hey, Merg! \u00a0You worked on a special election campaign. \u00a0And it lost! \u00a0Hahahahahahahahaha!&#8221; <\/strong>Yeah, who&#8217;da thunk it, a Republican losing in Saint Paul. \u00a0That&#8217;s not even &#8220;dog bites man&#8221;. \u00a0That&#8217;s &#8220;Dog sniffs Dog&#8221;. \u00a0 \u00a0We gave it our best shot, and we came up waaaaay short. \u00a0More later.<\/p>\n<p><strong>&#8220;Hey, Merg! \u00a0You promoted Bradlee Dean! \u00a0I got the screen shot!&#8221;<\/strong> Well, yeah, genius &#8211; it was <a href=\"http:\/\/www.shotinthedark.info\/wp\/?p=10717\">on my blog<\/a> every weekend for two years. \u00a0And in the last segment of my show, every Saturday; &#8220;Sons of Liberty up next, for those of you who want your Constitution straight up with no chaser!&#8221;, or some such.<\/p>\n<p>That&#8217;s what you do when you work for a radio station, or any broadcaster, or narrowcaster for that matter, if they depend on ratings; you cross-plug the other shows. \u00a0If, I dunno, Eric Pusey and Diane &#8220;Minnesota Observer&#8221; Gerth were to buy air time after the Northern Alliance on Saturdays, I&#8217;d give them a jaunty cross-promotion, too &#8211; because\u00a0that&#8217;s what you do in radio. \u00a0It&#8217;s called\u00a0being a professional.You promote the station&#8217;s other shows &#8211; because if they&#8217;re doing well, the whole station does well. \u00a0And if the station does well, Ed and I stay on the air.<\/p>\n<p>Does it mean I endorse everything Bradlee Dean said on his show? \u00a0Of course not. \u00a0I&#8217;m not going to comment on the Sons of Liberty&#8217;s departure from AM1280 &#8211; but the General Manager who lets us use his air time, Ron Stone,\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.minnpost.com\/braublog\/2011\/05\/25\/28631\/am1280_the_patriot_canceled_bradlee_dean_days_before_capitol_prayer\">did, right here<\/a>, and I really don&#8217;t need to add much to that. \u00a0Of course I <em>will <\/em>add that much of the Twin Cities leftymedia&#8217;s &#8220;coverage&#8221; of Dean was really, really bad; he <a href=\"http:\/\/www.shotinthedark.info\/wp\/?p=11218\">never advocated killing gays<\/a>, for starters, and his &#8220;association with the GOP&#8221; is even thinner gruel. \u00a0But hey, they need to break eggs to make omelettes, right?<\/p>\n<p><strong>&#8220;But Merg! \u00a0You <em>lost<\/em>! \u00a0Hahahahahahaha!&#8221; <\/strong>Well, as Abraham Lincoln said, &#8220;<em>The probability that we may fail in the struggle ought not to deter us from the support of a cause we believe to be just<\/em>.<em>&#8221; <\/em>And bringing a multi-party democracy to the &#8220;progressive&#8221; cesspool that is Saint Paul is nothing if not just; Saint Paul Republicans follow in the footsteps of Lech Walesa, trying to crack the rotting facade of a single-party autocracy. \u00a0It&#8217;s a tough job&#8230;<\/p>\n<p><strong>&#8220;Hey, Mitch &#8211; how&#8217;s biking going?&#8221;<\/strong>: \u00a0It&#8217;s not, yet. \u00a0My commute jumped from six to 20 miles. \u00a0Which is not to say I&#8217;m not going to start riding to work, at least part-way, pretty quick here &#8211; probably by throwing my bike on my bike rack, driving part way, leaving my car at a park and ride, and biking in the rest of the way. \u00a0 Soon, here.<\/p>\n<p><strong>&#8220;But Merg! \u00a0Your candidate got beat! \u00a0Hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha! Teh DFL <em>owns <\/em>this town!&#8221;. <\/strong>In 1982, the Chicago Bears went 3-6, in a strike-shortened season. \u00a0It was a terrible year, and a terrible team. \u00a0 But it had some elements &#8211; Walter Payton and some other great players in waiting &#8211; that would, when combined with a new coach, Mike Ditka, lead that same team, three years later, to become the greatest team in the history of pro football.<\/p>\n<p>The Saint Paul GOP, and the Fourth District GOP for that matter, are going to need more than three years to recover from decades of the beaten-down indolence that is the result of decades of defeat and oppression. \u00a0I say ten years. \u00a0Others think it can be done faster; I hope they&#8217;re right, but I figure ten years.<\/p>\n<p>What, we&#8217;re supposed to just give up?<\/p>\n<p>You don&#8217;t know me very well, do you?<\/p>\n<p><strong>&#8220;Say, Mitch &#8211; why do you still call the show the Northern Alliance Radio Network? \u00a0It&#8217;s just one show, on one station!&#8221; <\/strong>Oh, stay tuned.<\/p>\n<p><strong><br \/>\n<\/strong><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>I get a lot of questions here at Shot In The Dark. \u00a0Periodically, I like to answer them.
