{"id":19702,"date":"2011-05-02T03:41:40","date_gmt":"2011-05-02T09:41:40","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.shotinthedark.info\/wp\/?p=19702"},"modified":"2011-05-02T03:41:40","modified_gmt":"2011-05-02T09:41:40","slug":"in-plain-sight","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.shotinthedark.info\/wp\/?p=19702","title":{"rendered":"In Plain Sight"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I&#8217;m shocked &#8211; but not surprised &#8211; to hear that Bin Laden was &#8220;hiding&#8221; in a multi-milion-dollar &#8220;hideout&#8221; in <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Abbottabad\">Abottabad, Pakistan<\/a> &#8211; a good-sized, <em>garrison <\/em>town; it&#8217;s be sort of like finding him in Louisville, Kentucky.<\/p>\n<p>The event was, naturally, <a href=\"http:\/\/blogs.wsj.com\/indiarealtime\/2011\/05\/02\/from-abbottabad-live-tweeting-the-bin-laden-attack\/?mod=google_news_blog\">twittered<\/a>:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>A man in Abbottabad, the town where Osama bin Laden was killed by the U.S. on Monday, inadvertently live-tweeted the attack as it started.<\/p>\n<p>The man, who uses the Twitter handle \u201cReallyVirtual\u201d, identifies himself as Sohaib Athar, \u201can IT consultant taking a break from the rat-race by hiding in the mountains with his laptops.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone\" src=\"http:\/\/s.wsj.net\/public\/resources\/images\/OB-NS766_itwitt_D_20110502035600.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"262\" height=\"174\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Around 11 hours ago, according to the Twitter timeline, Mr. Athar first tweeted about a helicopter hovering above him at 1 a.m., saying it was a \u201crare event\u201d for Abbottabad. That would have been at about 3.30 p.m. Eastern time on Sunday.<\/p>\n<p>Still, Mr. Athar seems to have thought of it as a mere annoyance, as his next tweet was \u201cGo away helicopter \u2013 before I take out my giant swatter :-\/\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Within minutes, he tweeted: \u201cA huge window shaking bang here in Abbottabad&#8221;<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>This is going to make life interesting in Pakistan.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>I&#8217;m shocked &#8211; but not surprised &#8211; to hear that Bin Laden was &#8220;hiding&#8221; in a multi-milion-dollar &#8220;hideout&#8221; in Abottabad, Pakistan &#8211; a good-sized, garrison town; it&#8217;s be sort of like finding him in Louisville, Kentucky.
