If we learned anything over the winter, it’s that metaphors are out. \u00a0Put “crosshairs” on a map? \u00a0Say “don’t retreat – reload?” Use an even obliquely martial or firearms-related metaphor, even in an utterly political context<\/em>? \u00a0You are clearly and immediately demanding violence!<\/p>\n

Or so says the mainstream media. \u00a0When it’s Republicans.<\/p>\n

So it was interesting reading the latest tack from Media Matters<\/a>, the Soros funded propaganda firm that call the shots, directly or indirectly, for so much of the left’s “alternative” media:<\/p>\n

The liberal group Media Matters has quietly transformed itself in preparation for what its founder, David Brock, described in an interview as an all-out campaign of \u201cguerrilla warfare and sabotage\u201d aimed at the Fox News Channel.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

So they’ll be kneecapping Fox News crews, and putting sugar in their gas tanks?<\/p>\n

The group, launched as a more traditional media critic, has all but abandoned its monitoring of newspapers and other television networks and is narrowing its focus to Fox and a handful of conservative websites, which its leaders view as political organizations and the \u201cnerve center\u201d of the conservative movement. The shift reflects the centrality of the cable channel to the contemporary conservative movement, as well as the loathing it inspires among liberals …<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Irrational loathing, at that.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe strategy that we had had toward Fox was basically a strategy of containment,\u201d said Brock, Media Matters\u2019 chairman and founder and a former conservative journalist, adding that the group\u2019s main aim had been to challenge the factual claims of the channel and to attempt to prevent them from reaching the mainstream media.<\/p>\n

The new strategy, he said, is a \u201cwar on Fox.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Wow.<\/p>\n

What a metaphor.<\/p>\n

Conservatism’s response? \u00a0“Left 20, Drop 50, Fire for Effect.”<\/p>\n
