It has now been revealed that <strong>Microsoft, backed by US Marshals acting on a court order, seized servers <\/strong>that it&#8217;s estimated covertly controlled almost a million Windows PCs.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe think this has been 100 per cent effective,&#8221; said Richard Boscovich, senior attorney in Microsoft&#8217;s digital crimes unit, according to the Wall Street Journal.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Well, that&#8217;s cool.\u00a0 But back that thing up a minute.<\/p>\n<p>Microsoft has a &#8220;digital crimes unit?&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Like, its own internal CTU?<\/p>\n<p>OK, maybe.\u00a0 But I&#8217;m just picturing what kind of equipment would be appropriate for a Microsoft SWAT team:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Firearms<\/strong>: The Chauchat light machine gun, the Sten Mark II submachine gun, and the Nambu 8mm pistol (1)<\/li>\n<li><strong>The Microsoft Cyber-Assault Vehicle <\/strong>(a &#8217;77 Leyland Land Rover (2) with a TomTom)<\/li>\n<li><strong>Surveillance Cameras and Laptop Computers<\/strong> by <a href=\"http:\/\/www.pcworld.com\/article\/139958-2\/technologys_most_and_least_reliable_brands.html\">Hewlett Packard<\/a><\/li>\n<li><strong>Arrest Warrant Printers <\/strong>by <a href=\"http:\/\/www.pcworld.com\/article\/139958-2\/technologys_most_and_least_reliable_brands.html\">Lexmark<\/a>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>What else?<\/p>\n<p>(1) Note for non-gun-geeks; all three are legendary for their unreliability.\u00a0 Sorta like Windows.<\/p>\n<p>(2) Ditto<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The good news: one of the biggest spambot networks has been busted.
