{"id":18296,"date":"2011-02-22T12:00:40","date_gmt":"2011-02-22T18:00:40","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.shotinthedark.info\/wp\/?p=18296"},"modified":"2021-07-14T14:32:36","modified_gmt":"2021-07-14T19:32:36","slug":"chanting-points-memo-the-chanting-points-drinking-game","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.shotinthedark.info\/wp\/?p=18296","title":{"rendered":"Chanting Points Memo: The &#8220;Chanting Points&#8221; Drinking Game!"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Nothing in state government is so sacred that you can&#8217;t link it to a drinking game.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"..\/?cat=108\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright\" src=\"http:\/\/farm5.static.flickr.com\/4017\/4575208799_e7c6e34c94.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"252\" height=\"192\" \/><\/a>Although <a href=\"http:\/\/www.google.com\/url?sa=t&amp;source=web&amp;cd=2&amp;ved=0CCsQFjAB&amp;url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.minnesotademocratsexposed.com%2F2007%2F05%2F22%2Ffox-9-metzen-arrested-for-dui%2F&amp;rct=j&amp;q=metzen%20arrested%20DUI&amp;ei=EQZkTamHO4ep8AbNoKTRCw&amp;usg=AFQjCNFsTZEMxgIBms_bW1eovIfT8q2hhQ&amp;sig2=ePC52KS_oN7uSW2W2wasrA&amp;cad=rja\">we urge our actual state legislators not to be doing the game-drinking <em>while working<\/em><\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>At any rate &#8211; since the DFL has a legislative minority and an incredibly weak governor, their best shot at eking a victory out of this session is to convince The People that 2+2=&#8221;Blue&#8221;.\u00a0 And so the DFL has unleashed a wave of DFL propagandabots in the media, the alt-media, the press and in government itself, repeating the same series of lines, and lies, over and over and over &#8211; not so much repeating the Godwin-fodder &#8220;Big Lie&#8221; often enough as repeating a wide swathe of little lies &#8211; along the lines of &#8220;Tom Emmer tried to lower penalties for drunk drivers&#8221; &#8211; until the dim-witted and not-very-savvy (aka &#8220;The DFL&#8217;s swing voters&#8221;) start to think they&#8217;re true.<\/p>\n<p>And we might as well have fun with &#8217;em!<\/p>\n<p>So it&#8217;s time to turn all the bile, the ire, the vitrol and the waterboarded context into&#8230;<\/p>\n<p><strong>The Chanting Points Drinking Game<\/strong>!<\/p>\n<p>You need the following to play:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Three or more people &#8211; the more, the merrier!<\/li>\n<li>Alcohol<\/li>\n<li>One drinking glass for each contestant, suitable for the alcohol (beer glasses for beer, shot glasses for booze, wine glasses for whine).\u00a0 Alternate: empty jars will suffice.<\/li>\n<li>A Mark Dayton bobblehead doll.<\/li>\n<li>A TV or computer\u00a0 tuned to any political discussion &#8211; the session, TPT Almanac, &#8220;At Issue&#8221;, Esme Murphy&#8217;s show, whatever.\u00a0 If no suitable TV program is on, someone can read from <em>MNPublius, Minnesota &#8220;Progressive&#8221; Project, mnpACT!, MN2020, Alliance For A Better Minnesota, Bluestem Prairie <\/em>or any other combination of Twin Cities leftyblogs.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Here&#8217;s how you play:<\/p>\n<p>1. <strong>Before viewing, give the bobblehead to a random particpant<\/strong>.<br \/>\n2. <strong>Turn on the TV<\/strong>.<br \/>\n3. <strong>Whenever anyone says any variation of the following, everyone take a hit from your glass<\/strong>&#8230;<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>&#8220;We have a $6.2 Billion deficit!&#8221;<\/li>\n<li>&#8220;The only choices we have are tax hikes or layoffs!&#8221;&#8216;<\/li>\n<li>&#8220;The GOP wants to <em>force <\/em>cities to raise property taxes!&#8221;<\/li>\n<li>&#8220;Minnesotans won&#8217;t stand for this departure from our government tradition&#8221;<\/li>\n<li>&#8220;The GOP needs to reach across the aisle&#8221; \/ &#8220;Mark Dayton has done an admirable job of reaching across the aisle&#8221;<\/li>\n<li>Any reference to Orville Freeman, Arne Carlson, or any former governnor named Anderson<\/li>\n<li>Any use of the term &#8220;tipping point&#8221;<\/li>\n<li>&#8220;Where <em>is <\/em>the GOP&#8217;s no-cuts plan?&#8221; (If accompanied by a knowing smirk, make that two hits)<\/li>\n<li>&#8220;Government spending is essential for a healthy economy!&#8221;<\/li>\n<li>&#8220;We inherited this from Tim Pawlenty&#8221; (Take an extra sip if the word &#8220;disastrous&#8221; is used)<\/li>\n<li>&#8220;If the GOP says they want jobs, then why are they laying off state workers?&#8221;<\/li>\n<li>&#8220;The [GOP\/Tea Party\/any opponent of the DFL]&#8217;s plan is &#8216;extreme&#8217; and\/or &#8216;wrong for Minnesota'&#8221;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>4. After each drink line, the holder of the Dayton Bobblehead passes it to the next person in the circle.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>5. If anyone says &#8220;The GOP plan will [throw Grandma into the street\/freeze the children\/etc]&#8221;, the holder of the Dayton Bobblehead must drain his\/her glass immediately before passing it on to the next person. <\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Feel free to add &#8220;house rules&#8221; for other Chanting Points &#8211; mentions of &#8220;Wall Street&#8221;, &#8220;Koch Brothers&#8221;,\u00a0 variations on the term &#8220;Neocon&#8221; or &#8220;Mubarak&#8221;, or whatever works for you!<\/p>\n<p>Your entire party will be passed out in puddles of vomit within the hour.<\/p>\n<p>Just like the Senate DFL caucus on the last night of the session, come to think of it.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Nothing in state government is so sacred that you can&#8217;t link it to a drinking game.
