{"id":1819,"date":"2007-12-26T06:55:00","date_gmt":"2007-12-26T11:55:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.shotinthedark.info\/wp\/?p=1819"},"modified":"2007-12-26T06:55:00","modified_gmt":"2007-12-26T11:55:00","slug":"victory-for-free-enterprise","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.shotinthedark.info\/wp\/?p=1819","title":{"rendered":"Victory for Free Enterprise"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Last May, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.shotinthedark.info\/wp\/?p=862\">I reported<\/a> on an absurd lawsuit by Minneapolis taxi owners to cap the number of cab licenses in the city&#8230;on <em>Fifth Amendment <\/em>grounds:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>owners of Minneapolis cab licenses, who\u2019ve\u00a0benefitted immensely from government regulations artificially driving down the supply of cabs in Minneapolis, are sueing on Fifth Amendment grounds to protect a \u201cright\u201d to income that exists only because of government intervention!<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>The owners&#8217; &#8220;logic&#8221;; government adding more licenses was a &#8220;taking&#8221;.\u00a0 Never mind that they &#8220;took&#8221; something &#8211; a monopoly &#8211; that existed only due to government action.<\/p>\n<p>King reports that <a href=\"http:\/\/www.scsuscholars.com\/2007\/12\/fare-deal-at-last.html\">the madness is over<\/a>:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>The case of Minneapolis taxi cab licenses (previously reported <a href=\"http:\/\/www.scsuscholars.com\/2007\/10\/win-for-economic-liberty-in-minneapolis.html\">here<\/a>) has now been dismissed by a judge, making it possible for <a href=\"http:\/\/www.startribune.com\/local\/12646211.html\">free entry into the Minneapolis cab market<\/a>.
