From a 2005 press release:<\/p>\n<p><em> Common Cause strongly opposes any effort by Senate leaders to outlaw filibusters of judicial nominees to silence a vigorous debate about the qualifications of these nominees, short-circuiting the Senate\u2019s historic role in the nomination approval process.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em> \u201cThe filibuster shouldn\u2019t be jettisoned simply because it\u2019s inconvenient to the majority party\u2019s goals,\u201d said Common Cause President Chellie Pingree. \u201cThat\u2019s abuse of power.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Today, however, Common Cause is actively supporting filibuster \u201creform.\u201d It\u2019s one of the campaigns highlighted on Common Cause\u2019s website. Now Common Cause argues that the filibuster is \u201can historical accident\u201d and a tool of obstruction.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>We <a href=\"http:\/\/www.shotinthedark.info\/wp\/?p=16242\">see this in Minnesota, of course<\/a> &#8211; Common Cause filed a campaign finance complaint against <em>Republican <\/em>political action committees, but ignored vastly more convoluted and less-transparent machinations by the likes of &#8220;Alliance for a Better Minnesota&#8221; and its maze of PACs and contributors.<\/p>\n<p>Common Cause&#8217;s president has ignored repeated requests to come on the air and explain the odd double standard.<\/p>\n<p>It wouldn&#8217;t matter, but for the fact that parts of the Twin Cities media continue to call Common Cause &#8220;non-partisan&#8221;.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Common Cause has a newly-discovered sense of The Principles over filibuster &#8220;reform&#8221;: In 2005, Common Cause vigorously defended the filibuster when some Republicans proposed invoking the \u201cnuclear option\u201d to end the filibuster of judicial nominees.
