{"id":1754,"date":"2007-12-07T14:00:47","date_gmt":"2007-12-07T19:00:47","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.shotinthedark.info\/wp\/?p=1754"},"modified":"2007-12-07T14:00:47","modified_gmt":"2007-12-07T19:00:47","slug":"remember-pearl-harbor","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.shotinthedark.info\/wp\/?p=1754","title":{"rendered":"Remember Pearl Harbor"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The <a href=\"http:\/\/www.usatoday.com\/news\/nation\/2007-12-05-PearlHarbor_N.htm\">number of survivors is inexorably dwindling<\/a>, but some Pearl Harbor survivors are still busy telling their story:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p class=\"inside-copy\">Ten years ago, about 15 Pearl Harbor survivors were part of the pool of veterans who mingled with visitors, according to Skip Wheeler, a National Park Service ranger at the Arizona memorial who coordinates the volunteer effort. Now there are just these five.<\/p>\n<p class=\"inside-copy\">One of the regulars, Air Force veteran Bill Cope, died on Nov. 25 at age 94.<\/p>\n<p class=\"inside-copy\">&#8220;The attrition level is here, and we know that every day that they show up, it&#8217;s sort of like a gift,&#8221; Arizona Memorial historian Daniel Martinez said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"inside-copy\">The numbers are reflective of the nationwide loss of the &#8220;Greatest Generation,&#8221; and the ever-shrinking survivor turnout for the anniversary of the attack that launched the United States into World War II.
