{"id":1728,"date":"2007-11-30T09:09:20","date_gmt":"2007-11-30T14:09:20","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.shotinthedark.info\/wp\/?p=1728"},"modified":"2007-11-30T09:09:20","modified_gmt":"2007-11-30T14:09:20","slug":"the-war-that-matters","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.shotinthedark.info\/wp\/?p=1728","title":{"rendered":"The War That Matters"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>That noted O&#8217;Reillyesque tool Rasmussen notes that <a href=\"http:\/\/www.rasmussenreports.com\/public_content\/politics\/mood_of_america\/war_on_terror\/war_on_terror_update\">public approval of the Iraq war<\/a> is over the break-even point:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Confidence in the <a class=\"iAs\" style=\"border-bottom: 1px dotted darkgreen; text-decoration: none; font-weight: bold; color: darkgreen; background-color: transparent; cursor: pointer; padding-bottom: 1px\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/www.rasmussenreports.com\/public_content\/politics\/mood_of_america\/war_on_terror\/war_on_terror_update#\">War on Terror<img decoding=\"async\" style=\"border: 0pt none ; margin: 0pt; padding: 0pt; height: 10px; width: 10px; position: relative; top: 1px; left: 1px; float: none\" src=\"http:\/\/images.intellitxt.com\/ast\/adTypes\/2.gif\" \/><\/a> increased for the fourth straight month in November and is now near the highest level of President Bush\u2019s second term in office.<\/p>\n<p>The latest Rasmussen Reports tracking poll finds that 47% of Americans now say the U.S. and its allies are winning the War on Terror (<a target=\"_self\" href=\"http:\/\/www.rasmussenreports.com\/premium_content\/political_tracking_crosstabs\/november_2007\/crosstabs_war_on_terror_november_26_27_2007\">see crosstabs<\/a>). That\u2019s up from 43% <a target=\"_self\" href=\"http:\/\/www.rasmussenreports.com\/public_content\/politics\/mood_of_america\/war_on_terror\/43_say_u_s_winning_the_war_on_terror_30_say_terrorists_are_winning\">a month ago<\/a> and reflects is the highest level of confidence measured since December 2005. Over the past 35 months, confidence in the War on Terror has been higher than today only twice, in November and December 2005.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>And the bigger news?<\/p>\n<blockquote><\/blockquote>\n<blockquote><p>In what may be just as significant a finding, only 24% of voters now believe the terrorists are winning. That\u2019s down from 30% a month ago and represents the lowest level of pessimism recorded since 2004&#8230;Partisan assessments of U.S. foreign policy success remain sharply divided. Sixty-seven percent (67%) of Republicans are optimistic about the short-term in Iraq, versus just 12% of Democrats.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Conventional wisdom says this is bad for Democrats.
