{"id":16918,"date":"2010-12-31T12:51:53","date_gmt":"2010-12-31T18:51:53","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.shotinthedark.info\/wp\/?p=16918"},"modified":"2010-12-31T12:51:53","modified_gmt":"2010-12-31T18:51:53","slug":"she-could-do-it","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.shotinthedark.info\/wp\/?p=16918","title":{"rendered":"She Could Do It"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Geraldine Hoff Doyle, the woman on whom the iconic World War 2 home-front &#8220;We Can Do It&#8221; poster and template for the &#8220;Rosie the Riveter&#8221; image was reputedly modeled, <a href=\"http:\/\/story.albuquerqueexpress.com\/index.php\/ct\/9\/cid\/63e88d54af0cf473\/id\/41657174\/ht\/Geraldine-Hoff-Doyle-inspiration-behind-famous-We-Can-Do-It!\/\">passed away today<\/a>.\u00a0 She was 86.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/archive.ccm.edu\/rosie\/images\/WeCanDoItPoster%5B1%5D.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone\" src=\"http:\/\/archive.ccm.edu\/rosie\/images\/WeCanDoItPoster%5B1%5D.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"455\" height=\"602\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>She didn&#8217;t know it at the time, of course; she&#8217;d had a still snapped for a news story by an AP photographer, and the wartime art machine took it from there.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Doyle didn&#8217;t realize she had a famous face until she was flipping through a magazine in 1982 and spotted a reproduction of the poster, her daughter told The New York Times.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>It&#8217;s good to remember sometimes that the name &#8220;Rosie&#8221; used to mean &#8220;the Riveter&#8221;, rather than &#8220;O&#8217;Donnell&#8221;.\u00a0 If there&#8217;s justice, maybe it will once again.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Geraldine Hoff Doyle, the woman on whom the iconic World War 2 home-front &#8220;We Can Do It&#8221; poster and template for the &#8220;Rosie the Riveter&#8221; image was reputedly modeled, passed away today.\u00a0 She was 86.
