{"id":15877,"date":"2010-12-03T06:00:41","date_gmt":"2010-12-03T12:00:41","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.shotinthedark.info\/wp\/?p=15877"},"modified":"2010-12-03T09:13:37","modified_gmt":"2010-12-03T15:13:37","slug":"sturdevant-in-training","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.shotinthedark.info\/wp\/?p=15877","title":{"rendered":"Sturdevant-In-Training"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>For as long as I&#8217;ve been reading the Strib, and certainly for longer than I&#8217;ve been writing this blog, Lori Sturdevant has been a relentlessly reliably-unquestioning voice for the DFL.<\/p>\n<p>We&#8217;ll come back to that.<\/p>\n<p>On Tuesday, I <a href=\"http:\/\/www.shotinthedark.info\/wp\/?p=15772\">wrote about the Strib&#8217;s farewell hit piece <\/a>against Tim Pawlenty &#8211; noting that he&#8217;d voted to pardon Jeremy Giefer.\u00a0 Short story short, Giefer had knocked up his girlfriend back when he was 19 and she was 14.\u00a0 He served a jail term, then married the girl and helped raise the baby and, a decade and a half after serving his time and &#8211; apparently &#8211; living clean, applied for and received a &#8220;pardon extraordinary&#8221; from a board including the Governor.<\/p>\n<p>It turns out Giefer lied to the board; he&#8217;d been molesting another girl for quite some time even as he approached the board.\u00a0 <em>Inconceivably<\/em>, he lied about it.<\/p>\n<p>Now, Ryan Lyk at MDE <a href=\"http:\/\/www.minnesotademocratsexposed.com\/2010\/12\/03\/lori-swanson-approves-pawlenty-pardon\/\">notes<\/a> something I&#8217;d mentioned obliquely in my piece on Monday:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>The attack by the left on Pawlenty\u2019s choice to pardon is an attack on Attorney General Lori Swanson, period. Though this seems to be one of those \u201chindsight is always 20\/20\u2033 moments, facts today conclude neither [the Govenor nor the Attorney General, nor the Chief Judge of the Supreme Court &#8211; the members of the panel] had the evidence they have today back then in order to make the correct decision. The DFL has decided to spin this issue until it dies; here\u2019s hoping it does soon considering one of their own leaders was part of the consensus to pardon.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>I looked back at <a href=\"http:\/\/www.startribune.com\/politics\/local\/111013529.html?elr=KArksLckD8EQDUoaEyqyP4O:DW3ckUiD3aPc:_Yyc:aUac8HEaDiaMDCinchO7DU\">original <em>Strib <\/em>piece<\/a>.\u00a0 I noticed two things.<\/p>\n<p>First &#8211; nowhere in the piece is Attorney General Swanson mentioned.<\/p>\n<p>Second &#8211; the piece is written by the <em>Strib&#8217;s <\/em>Pat Doyle, who seems to be taking over the &#8220;context-shaving, hit-writing&#8221; beat for the Strib.\u00a0 He wrote the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.shotinthedark.info\/wp\/?p=11547\">hit piece last summer over Emmer&#8217;s private-sector business <\/a>and legal dealings, which we showed was <a href=\"http:\/\/www.shotinthedark.info\/wp\/?p=11604\">so deprived of context as to be actively deceptive<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Is Pat Doyle becoming the Strib&#8217;s designated DFL hit man?<\/p>\n<p>And is he bucking for Lori Sturdevant&#8217;s seat, one day, as the in-house DFL shill?<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>For as long as I&#8217;ve been reading the Strib, and certainly for longer than I&#8217;ve been writing this blog, Lori Sturdevant has been a relentlessly reliably-unquestioning voice for the DFL.
