{"id":1383,"date":"2007-10-03T05:05:38","date_gmt":"2007-10-03T10:05:38","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.shotinthedark.info\/wp\/?p=1383"},"modified":"2007-10-03T05:05:38","modified_gmt":"2007-10-03T10:05:38","slug":"you-dont-know-hard-core","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.shotinthedark.info\/wp\/?p=1383","title":{"rendered":"You Don&#8217;t Know Hard-Core"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>From the better late than never department &#8211; I read this on Swanblog, a piece from last July.\u00a0 John was watching a local high school graduation on cable:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>&#8230;\u00a0(What, you&#8217;ve never been bored?) when they decided to honor the &#8220;vast field of diversity that has found its beginnings all over the world.&#8221; There were 39 &#8220;birth countries&#8221; of the graduating seniors. They began a parade of flags, starting with the U.S., to represent each one.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>And then, the last thing I&#8217;d have expected (or&#8230;<em>was<\/em> it?):<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Finally, they got to the letter &#8220;v.&#8221; The mistress of ceremonies announced, &#8220;The flag of Viet Nam.&#8221; A student marched in with&#8230;get this&#8230;the flag of <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/South_Vietnam\"><font color=\"#5588aa\">South Viet Nam<\/font><\/a>! Perhaps it was a mistake. Perhaps the parents or grandparents were victims of the communists and held allegiance to the relic from 1975. But it was a nice irony when the school was trying to be politically correct.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Nice and refreshing.
