{"id":13241,"date":"2010-09-06T07:48:50","date_gmt":"2010-09-06T12:48:50","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.shotinthedark.info\/wp\/?p=13241"},"modified":"2010-09-05T22:07:34","modified_gmt":"2010-09-06T03:07:34","slug":"you-asked-for-it-you-got-it","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.shotinthedark.info\/wp\/?p=13241","title":{"rendered":"Underinsured"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>They said (with a nod to Glenn Reynolds) that if we voted for John McCain, Americans would lose their health insurance coverage.<\/p>\n<p>And <a href=\"http:\/\/insureblog.blogspot.com\/2010\/08\/if-obamacare-is-so-great.html\">they were right<\/a>!<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>All but two health insurance companies have withdrawn from offering maternity benefits.<\/p>\n<p>Only a handful of companies will still write &#8220;child only&#8221; health insurance plans.<\/p>\n<p>As of this date, it is almost impossible to find a rate for children&#8217;s health insurance if they are under age 19 and you are looking for coverage to be effective on 9\/23\/10 or later.<\/p>\n<p>Some companies have either withdrawn from offering major medical business or are dropping hints they will be out of that market in 18 months or less.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>That&#8217;s right &#8211; the plans that many people went to to head off crises, while paying cash or using Health Savings Accounts for routine and smaller bills, now toast.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Many have already indicated higher premiums for the 4th quarter of 2010 and later, especially on children under age 19.<\/p>\n<p>Companies are starting to push limited benefit plans as &#8220;more affordable&#8221; alternatives to true major medical insurance.<\/p>\n<p>Several companies have introduced new plans with stripped down benefits in an attempt to make their product look more appealing.<\/p>\n<p>Drug formulary&#8217;s are changing, so the drug that is covered under your plan now may not be covered in the future.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<blockquote><p>Doctor and hospital networks are shrinking in an effort to further control costs but also has the effect of limiting access to a wide range of medical providers.<\/p>\n<p>Given all this, why is Obamacare so great for the consumer?<\/p>\n<p>What happened to , &#8220;If you like the plan you have now you can keep it&#8221;?<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>What &#8220;happened&#8221; was it got &#8220;Hope And Changed&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p>Actually, what&#8217;s happening is <em>exactly what conservatives predicted<\/em>; Obamacare&#8217;s overburden is forcing private insurance out of the market, so people &#8211; mindful of the &#8220;you must be insured&#8221; mandate &#8211; will have <em>no choice <\/em>but to go to the Feds.<\/p>\n<p>It&#8217;s Single Payer by Coercion, basically.<\/p>\n<p>(Via <a href=\"http:\/\/moot.typepad.com\/what_if\/2010\/09\/for-all-the-obamacare-fans.html\">Peg<\/a>)<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>They said (with a nod to Glenn Reynolds) that if we voted for John McCain, Americans would lose their health insurance coverage.
