{"id":12854,"date":"2010-08-23T12:01:33","date_gmt":"2010-08-23T17:01:33","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.shotinthedark.info\/wp\/?p=12854"},"modified":"2010-08-23T11:07:27","modified_gmt":"2010-08-23T16:07:27","slug":"chanting-points-memo-faint-damnation","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.shotinthedark.info\/wp\/?p=12854","title":{"rendered":"Chanting Points Memo:  Faint Damnation"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>After I wrote <a href=\"http:\/\/www.shotinthedark.info\/wp\/?p=12812\">my piece on Friday<\/a> &#8211; the left and media&#8217;s current chant about &#8220;investors targeting Target&#8221;, which showed that the three firms that the <em>Strib <\/em>was crowing about amount to .0015, or <em>fifteen ten-thousandths<\/em>, of Target&#8217;s market capitalization &#8211; I wondered; how do the various &#8220;Socially Responsible Investment&#8221; (SRI) firms stack up against a company like Target? \u00a0Which, let us not forget, is Minnesota&#8217;s second-largest corporate donor to charity and one of the most PC-friendly companies in the business, but can afford to be, <em>because they kick market ass<\/em>?<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright\" src=\"http:\/\/farm5.static.flickr.com\/4017\/4575208799_e7c6e34c94.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"252\" height=\"192\" \/><\/p>\n<p>I figured it&#8217;d be interesting to compare Target&#8217;s market performance to that of the three SRI funds mentioned in the <em>Strib <\/em>piece.<\/p>\n<p>But I can only do two. \u00a0Because try as I may, I can&#8217;t find a ticker symbol for Trillium.<\/p>\n<p>Here&#8217;s the comparative performance so far this year. \u00a0Target (TGT) is blue, Walden (WSEFX) red, Calvert (CAAAX) yellow:<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone\" src=\"http:\/\/farm5.static.flickr.com\/4134\/4920497656_5fb3988509.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"500\" height=\"211\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Walden&#8217;s about even on this dismal year; Calvert is off about four (after being down nearly ten a month ago).
