Sign number 30 that the DFL is so scared of Tom Emmer that they don’t even bother washing their underwear anymore; they’re bringing up “the DUI issue again”.<\/p>\n

It popped up last spring<\/a> during the endorsing convention – and, rumor has it, one of the big PACs is going to run a big <\/em>ad buy on the “subject”.<\/p>\n

I saw the ad just now. I’m not going to link to it – Alida Messinger can pay me a couple thousand dollars. \u00a0If you want to see it, it’s out there.<\/p>\n

But it’s an incredibly gutless, misleading ad.<\/p>\n

It’s Ancient History: <\/strong>Emmer had two DUIs – 19 and 29 years ago<\/em>. \u00a0 \u00a0He paid his debt to society about the time Bill Clinton was being elected to office.<\/p>\n

Facts are Pesky Things: <\/strong>The laws he proposed – in the 2006 session<\/em>, decades after his episodes – would have treated drunk drivers as innocent until proven guilty <\/em>and allowed them some rights back after ten years of good behavior<\/em>! \u00a0That is all!<\/p>\n

The ad itself – a woman talking about her son, killed by a drunk driver who, I’m told, wasn’t <\/em>Tom Emmer – is the most shameless bit of fact-free, context-raping emotional manipulation I’ve seen on the TV yet.<\/p>\n
