{"id":12016,"date":"2010-07-13T12:02:15","date_gmt":"2010-07-13T17:02:15","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.shotinthedark.info\/wp\/?p=12016"},"modified":"2010-07-13T12:02:11","modified_gmt":"2010-07-13T17:02:11","slug":"whistling-past-the-graveyard","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.shotinthedark.info\/wp\/?p=12016","title":{"rendered":"Whistling Past The Graveyard"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><em>\u00a0<\/em>The lastest KSTP-Survey USA poll shows Michele Bachmann up over Tarryl Clark by nine points with four months &#8217;til the election.<\/p>\n<p>Someone named &#8220;Alec&#8221;, a &#8220;diarist&#8221; at <em>Minnesota &#8220;Progressive&#8221; Project<\/em>, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.surveyusa.com\/client\/PollReportEmail.aspx?g=37e41c98-7f52-4350-82b9-35876368de8b\">has a Matthews-y tingle running down his leg<\/a>:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Someone else can write a nice front page post, but I am very excited by this. Bachmann 48, Clark 39. MOE 4%. Hard to believe the IP candidate only got 6%. With no name recognition, Clark is only down by 9. Bachmann is below 50% and her name rec is universal.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Four months &#8217;til the election, with Clark benefitting from\u00a0a blitz of advertising and friendly-to-fawning coverage in the Twin Cities media, before Bachmann has even really started seriously campaigning.\u00a0 Seriously &#8211; Bachmann has yet to spend figurative dime one on her campaign.\u00a0 There is no need to, not yet.<\/p>\n<p>The &#8220;name recognition&#8221; is a red herring, too; all Bachmann&#8217;s negatives are in play, but Clark &#8211; a tax-and-spendaholic in a year and a district where that should be poisonous this fall &#8211; has only started to turn people off.\u00a0 As &#8220;Alec&#8221; notes, she has no name recognition; that may be the best thing going for her so far.<\/p>\n<p>And given the polarization of the numbers in the KSTP poll, I&#8217;m going to suspect that independents &#8211; who are breaking GOP nationwide &#8211; are not really sounding off yet.<\/p>\n<p>Joe &#8220;<a href=\"http:\/\/www.shotinthedark.info\/wp\/?p=1257\">Chloe<\/a>&#8221; Bodell comments:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><em>We&#8217;ll dig into the numbers later &#8212; but thanks to Alec for getting the news out to the &#8216;sphere. <\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>This is good-to-great news, folks. &#8211; promoted by Joe Bodell)<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Well, run this good-to-great news; at this point in 2006 and 2006, if memory serves (and I believe it does, but stop me if I&#8217;m wrong) Patty Wetterling was around nine points back in a bad GOP year, and Elwin &#8220;E-Tink&#8221; Tinklenburg was closer than that two years ago in a much, much worse year.<\/p>\n<p>I&#8217;ve been predicting an eight-point Bachmann win by November.\u00a0 I&#8217;m seeing no reason not to be optimistic.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0A lot can happen in four months, of course.<\/p>\n<p>Gary Gross also <a href=\"http:\/\/www.letfreedomringblog.com\/?p=711\">covers the topic<\/a>.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>\u00a0The lastest KSTP-Survey USA poll shows Michele Bachmann up over Tarryl Clark by nine points with four months &#8217;til the election.
