There has been a buzz about Petraeus and the presidency since about the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.thedailybeast.com\/blogs-and-stories\/2009-10-12\/petraeus-for-president\/full\/\" target=\"_blank\">fall of last year<\/a>, and to many in the Republican Party\u2014a party bereft of ideas and credible leaders\u2014the general has increasingly taken on the aspect of a possible messiah. His impeccable military credentials, his undoubted intelligence, his mastery of personal and professional politics (you wouldn\u2019t catch him talking to <a href=\"http:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/politics\/news\/17390\/119236\" target=\"_blank\">Rolling Stone<\/a> in a million years), plus his undoubted (if carefully tailored) conservatism have led many to see in him a man who can take on Obama in 2012, and beat him.
