{"id":1064,"date":"2007-07-16T06:43:33","date_gmt":"2007-07-16T11:43:33","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.shotinthedark.info\/wp\/?p=1064"},"modified":"2007-08-26T15:37:02","modified_gmt":"2007-08-26T20:37:02","slug":"psychology-of-mobs","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.shotinthedark.info\/wp\/?p=1064","title":{"rendered":"Psychology of MOBs"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I made it to the MOB party last night &#8211; fashionably late, for a change!<\/p>\n<p>These things are always a dizzying melange.\u00a0 I always meet scads of interesting people.\u00a0 Where to start?\u00a0<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Met JRoosh from Roosh Five, one of my favorite newer MOB blogs, who had <a href=\"http:\/\/rooshfive.blogspot.com\/2007\/07\/mob-rules.html\">his own account of the evening<\/a>.<\/li>\n<li>Most of the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.truthvmachine.com\/\">TvM<\/a> crew was there &#8211; Gary, the Ringer (fully recovered from his car accident, or so it seemed), and of course Jeff Kouba, whom I believe I met for the first time.\u00a0<\/li>\n<li>The <a href=\"http:\/\/ladieslogic.com\/\">Lady Logician and the Logical Husband<\/a>.\u00a0<\/li>\n<li>Neal (Neil?) Krasnoff from <a href=\"http:\/\/loyalopposition.wordpress.com\/\">Loyal Opposition<\/a>.<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/hammerswing75.blogspot.com\/\">Ben from Hammerschwing<\/a>, who, I learned, is in seminary.<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/www.policyguy.com\/\">John from Policy Guy<\/a>, who, last I saw, was hanging out with Erik &#8220;the Transit Geek&#8221; Hare.\u00a0<\/li>\n<li>Wog from <a href=\"http:\/\/wogsblog.blogspot.com\">Wog&#8217;s Blog<\/a>, who&#8217;s counting down toward a liver transplant one of these days<a href=\"http:\/\/www.lileks.com\/bleats\">. <\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/www.lileks.com\/bleats\">Lileks<\/a> and the Giant Swede.<\/li>\n<li>The whole crew from Freedom Dogs &#8211; Derek, Lassie, Guy, Jonez\u00a0and <strike>Pinkmon<\/strike> Diamond Dog<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/bradley1969.blogspot.com\/2007\/07\/mob-mentality.html\">Brad Carlson<\/a> and his wife Jennifer, who took plenty o&#8217;pictures<\/li>\n<li>An ailing but ebullient\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/koolaidreport.blogspot.com\/\">Joe Tucci<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/thenightwriterblog.powerblogs.com\/\">Night Writer<\/a>\u00a0&#8211; really the First Familiy of Minnesota blogging, with <a href=\"http:\/\/thenightwriterblog.powerblogs.com\/mall_diva\/\">Mall Diva<\/a>, Tiger Lilly, and their small crowd of devotees.\u00a0 The Writer <a href=\"http:\/\/thenightwriterblog.powerblogs.com\/posts\/1184558570.shtml\">had an account of the evening<\/a>, by the way, including a photo of me, captioned: &#8220;<em>The Reverend Mother spent part of the evening eavesdropping on <\/em><a href=\"http:\/\/www.shotinthedark.info\/wp\/index.php\"><em>Mitch Berg<\/em><\/a><em>. &#8220;He&#8217;s really interesting,&#8221; she said. &#8220;Is there anything he doesn&#8217;t have an opinion on?&#8221;\u00a0<\/em>[<font color=\"#008080\">Hm &#8211; come to think if it, probably not&#8230;<\/font>]<em>\u00a0If so, we haven&#8217;t found it. I do know he likes Springsteen<\/em> [<font color=\"#008080\"> well, yeah<\/font>] <em>and, along with <\/em><a href=\"http:\/\/www.ourhouseblog.com\/2007\/05\/i-am-in-love-with-mall-diva.php\"><em>Strommie<\/em><\/a><em>, the Mall Diva<\/em> <font color=\"#008080\">[Oh, Writer &#8211; I&#8217;m so not like Strom&#8230;]<\/font>.<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/www.anti-strib.blogspot.com\/\">Anti-Strib Tracy<\/a> and his vastly better half.<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/speedgibson.powerblogs.com\/\">Much less of Speed Gibson<\/a> than I remember &#8211; congrats!<\/li>\n<li>My neighbor John, from <a href=\"http:\/\/crazybutable.com\/weblog\/\">Crazy But Able<\/a>\u00a0(whom I&#8217;d nearly run down on my bike on Friday while he was walking with his wife and baby around Como)\u00a0who <a href=\"http:\/\/www.crazybutable.com\/weblog\/archives\/2007\/07\/15\/mob-party-photos-2\/\">captured the event<\/a> with a <em>lot <\/em>of photos &#8211; which are, amazingly, very good.\u00a0<\/li>\n<li>My other neighbor, <a href=\"http:\/\/centrisity.blogspot.com\">Flash, from Centrisity<\/a><\/li>\n<li>Dan, the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.northernalliancewannabe.blogspot.com\/\">Northern Alliance Wannabe<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/www.scsuscholars.com\/\">King<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/minnesotademocratsexposed.com\/\">Michael<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/www.am1500.com\/bios\/bobdavis.shtml\">Bob Davis<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.politicsinminnesota.com\/\">Sarah Janecek<\/a> over at the radio table.<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/www.residualforces.com\/2007\/07\/15\/mob-tastic\/#comments\">AAA<\/a> and&#8230;Carrie?\u00a0 Keri?\u00a0 Caray?\u00a0 Anyway, Andy bought me a drink, so there&#8217;ll be nothing but favorable reviews of his presence.\u00a0 Andy reviewed the event, throwing down on the mostly-absent Fraters&#8230;<\/li>\n<li>&#8230;who did, in fact, send <a href=\"http:\/\/www.fraterslibertas.com\">Atomizer<\/a> and the Atomizerette to represent.<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/lloydletta.blogspot.com\">Eva Young<\/a>, who does a lot less name-calling in person than on her blogs.<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/www.joel-rosenberg.com\/\">Joel and Mrs. <strike>Rossennbeerrgg<\/strike> Rosenberg<\/a>.<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/crosswordbebop.blogspot.com\/\">Doug<\/a> was there, too&#8230;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>I know I&#8217;m missing some.\u00a0 Cue me in!<\/p>\n<p>And I can hardly wait for the next one!<\/p>\n<p>UPDATE:\u00a0 Gotcha, Joel.\u00a0 Got Doug Bass, too.<\/p>\n<p>Of course, I need to shout out to the ones everyone missed; Katie from Yucky Salad, Cathy from the Wright, Jordan and Mark, the Fraters, the Powerguys, Swiftee, Yossarian, Doug Williams, Steve Gigl, Jay Reding&#8230;<\/p>\n<p>But it&#8217;s summer.\u00a0 We&#8217;re happy anyone at all takes such a gorgeous evening and comes out.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>I made it to the MOB party last night &#8211; fashionably late, for a change!
